Position Overview
We are seeking a
Lab Computing Analyst to support Windows 11 upgrade initiatives and IT asset management projects within a laboratory environment. This role requires hands-on experience with Windows operating systems, laboratory hardware and software, troubleshooting, and asset inventory management. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently with researchers, vendors, and cross-functional IT teams to ensure successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Windows 11 Upgrade Project
- Perform Windows 11 (LTS, Pro, and Enterprise) upgrades, configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting before, during, and after implementation.
- Build and configure Windows 11 systems manually without relying solely on automated imaging solutions.
- Support laboratory instruments and associated software during operating system upgrades.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot computer hardware, peripherals, and third-party devices, including cameras, printers, scanners, and expansion cards.
- Replicate hardware and software configurations following system upgrades.
- Utilize SCCM to deploy packages, perform software installations, and assist with issue investigation.
- Work independently with researchers, laboratory personnel, and third-party vendors to coordinate and complete upgrade activities.
- Create, update, and maintain support tickets and documentation using ServiceNow and JIRA.
Asset Management Project
- Conduct room-by-room hardware inventories using modern scanning tools.
- Utilize inventory scanners or RFID-based technology to track IT assets.
- Maintain accurate asset records and reconcile discrepancies across internal asset management systems.
- Generate inventory status reports and follow up on exceptions with IT and Facilities teams.
- Ensure hardware inventory records remain accurate and up to date.
Additional Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot server and workstation hardware, software, and operating systems.
- Monitor system performance and maintain secure computing environments.
- Support data integrity, access control, and file system security.
- Communicate technical issues and solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Recommend hardware, software, and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
- Participate in IT infrastructure and technology implementation projects as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience with Windows 11 (LTS, Pro, and Enterprise) installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting laboratory instruments and laboratory software.
- Expertise in hardware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Microsoft SCCM for software deployment and package management.
- Working knowledge of ServiceNow and JIRA.
- Experience performing IT asset inventories using barcode or RFID scanning tools.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently in laboratory and research environments while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
