Diesel Mechanic Trainee — Paid On-the-Job Training

Starting pay: $22.00/hr → $24.00/hr after 6 months
Want to get paid while you learn how to wrench on big rigs? Capital Towing & Recovery is looking for a motivated, hard-working individual to join our shop as a Diesel Mechanic Trainee.
We're not a giant corporate repair chain. We're a family-owned shop that keeps local fleets moving and handles private breakdowns across the region. You'll work side-by-side with experienced technicians who will teach you the ropes — and you'll get paid the whole time.
This is a hands-on opportunity to build a real career. You won't be sweeping floors or fetching coffee. You'll be learning preventative maintenance, tire work, brake systems, fuel systems, and in-depth repairs as you grow. You'll also train on mobile road service calls, where you can earn commission-based pay when on-call.
What you'll learn & do
- Perform full preventative maintenance on tractor-trailers
- Oil changes, fuel filter replacement, and priming fuel systems
- Dismount and mount tires, repair air brake systems, replace brake shoes
- Assist mechanics with in-depth repairs and diagnostics
- Run for parts and help keep the shop organized
- Train for mobile road service calls (additional on-call pay)
What we require
- Live within 30 miles of our shop
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- At least 23 years old (required by our commercial vehicle insurance carrier)
- Valid driver's license (2 or fewer points, no major violations)
- Must pass a DOT Medical Exam and pre-employment drug test (marijuana use not permitted)
- Willingness to work hard, learn fast, and grow with the team
