The Volunteer Coordinator provides hands-on support to the Volunteer Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of volunteer activities. This role ensures volunteers are successfully onboarded, scheduled, trained, and supported during their service. The Volunteer Assistant plays a key role in maintaining a positive volunteer experience by overseeing volunteer check-in, preparing project materials, supporting volunteer supervision, and ensuring smooth execution of volunteer activities. The Volunteer Assistant works closely with the Volunteer Manager, the programs team, and the warehouse teams.
This position requires flexibility, including two evenings per week until 8:00 PM and every other weekend to support volunteer shifts and events. A successful Volunteer Assistant should be personable, meticulous about keeping records and passionate about volunteer work.

Lead assigned volunteer opportunities, ensuring an efficient and enjoyable experience for participants (this includes setting up and cleaning the volunteer opportunities)
- Provide orientation and training for each volunteer activity

Play a pivotal role in creating a positive atmosphere that encourages volunteers to return regularly

Maintain a clean, orderly, and welcoming workspace/volunteer room for volunteers

Assist with maintaining files, records, applications, volunteer calendar, "week at a glance", and other data concerning the volunteer program
- Report on volunteer attendance at volunteer opportunities

Supports internal and external communication regarding the volunteer program

Assists with volunteer reservations, check-in, and scheduling

Assist with volunteer emails, volunteer opportunity reminders, and thank you emails

Assist with prepping Page-It-Forward (off-site) book prep materials

Assists with volunteer appreciation and recognition events

Maintain an accurate count of book prep inventory and inform the Volunteer Manager when supplies are running low

Ensures the organization's purpose is conveyed to the public
- Helps with the expansion of outreach efforts for volunteers
- Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Volunteer Manager or Programs Director that are related to the fundamental aspects of the Volunteer Assistant position.

High school diploma or equivalent required; college experience preferred

1-2 years of experience in volunteer coordination, customer service, event support, or nonprofit work preferred

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Comfortable working with groups and public speaking

Good time-management skills
- Ability to lift 25-30 lbs. and work on feet for extended periods of time
