Summary
This role is responsible for the installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of heavy machinery and related support equipment at the yard location. This position plays a critical role in minimizing downtime and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of processing equipment. The position requires close collaboration with operations, management, safety and environmental, or some combination of these groups.
Essential Job Functions
- Install, maintain, and repair heavy equipment throughout the location such as balers, shears, and all mobile equipment.
- Inspect and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks to prevent equipment breakdowns and ensure optimal functionality.
- Perform predictive and operational maintenance.
- Oversee preventive maintenance by identifying and correcting potential issues, replacing worn out pieces and lubricating mechanical parts.
- Using machinery or equipment, such as forklifts or lifts, to move mechanical parts.
- Repair or replace defective parts using hand and power tools as needed.
- Weld and fabricate to repair or modify machine components as needed.
- Able to troubleshoot and repair the following: electrical systems, hydraulic systems, various cylinders, valves, accumulators, and pumps.
- Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances.
- Must be willing and able to work with heavy equipment when needed.
- Learn and work in accordance with company procedures and policies, as well as safety and environmental rules and guidelines.
- Collaborate with other maintenance and production teams to address equipment-related challenges.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned pending on business needs.
Qualifications

- Minimum 2-5 years maintenance experience, preferred.
- Strong mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with heavy mobile and stationary processing equipment.
- Skilled in welding, torch cutting, and using heavy-duty tools.
- Comfortable working outdoors and in rugged, noisy environments.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work at heights or in confined spaces.
- Knowledgeable in basic hand tools and proper use.
- Strong analytical skills and theoretical background in mechanical systems.
- Perform assignments in a timely manner.
- Work autonomously or act as an effective team member, exhibiting strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written, organization, and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Some computer skills are required.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those an employee should possess to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Lifting and Carrying: Regularly lift and carry heavy objects and tools (up to 50–75 lbs or more with assistance). Handle and move large machine components and materials manually or with hoists/cranes/forklifts.
- Standing and Walking: Stand and walk for extended periods throughout an 8–10 hour shift. Move around machinery, catwalks, stairs, and uneven surfaces across the facility or yard.
- Climbing and Balancing: Climb ladders, scaffolding, and industrial equipment to access elevated machinery or structures. Maintain balance while working at heights or on narrow platforms.
- Bending, Kneeling, and Crawling: Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch to access low or confined areas. Perform tasks in tight spaces (e.g., under conveyor systems or inside equipment housing).
- Reaching and Handling: Use hands and arms for reaching overhead, forward, and side-to-side. Operate power tools, hand tools, welding equipment, and precision instruments.
- Manual Dexterity and Coordination: Perform detailed mechanical work with hands and fingers. Use both hands for gripping, turning, fitting, and assembling small parts or fasteners.
- Vision and Hearing: Good close-range vision for reading schematics, inspecting components, and working on precision parts. Ability to detect abnormal sounds in machinery (e.g., grinding, knocking, or rattling).

Work Hours
Monday through Friday with a 40-50 hour work week. Overtime and weekends will be scheduled as needed. Schedule is subject to change to facilitate business and production needs.
