The Staff Accountant supports plant financial operations with particular responsibility for fixed asset accounting and capital project tracking within a manufacturing environment.
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting general accounting functions for the manufacturing facility, including fixed asset accounting, capital project tracking, month-end close support, reconciliations, and financial reporting activities.
This position performs a broad range of accounting responsibilities; however, strong fixed asset accounting experience in a manufacturing environment is a key requirement for success in this role.
The position works closely with plant leadership, maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and proper capitalization of manufacturing equipment and projects.

Fixed Asset & Capital Project Accounting (Primary Responsibility)
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset subledger
- Track capital expenditures and construction-in-progress (CIP) activity
- Coordinate asset capitalization and project closeout entries
- Review expenditures for capitalization vs. expense treatment
- Maintain asset tagging and tracking processes across plant operations
- Calculate and monitor depreciation schedules
- Support physical fixed asset inventories and verification activities
- Partner with engineering and maintenance teams to track capital projects
General Accounting Responsibilities
- Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes
- Assist with financial statement preparation
- Maintain general ledger accuracy
- Support inventory and manufacturing-related accounting activities
- Assist with audit requests and documentation support
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes
- Strengthen internal controls and documentation procedures
Cross-Functional Plant Support
- Work closely with plant leadership to track equipment installations and upgrades
- Verify asset placement within manufacturing and warehouse environments
- Support capital budget tracking and reporting
- Assist with process improvement initiatives within accounting workflows
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position operates in both office and manufacturing environments.
The employee must be able to:
- Access production and warehouse areas as needed
- Walk the manufacturing floor to verify asset placement and status
- Work near industrial equipment and moving machinery
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in plant areas
- Sit for extended periods performing accounting work
- Occasionally stand, bend, and reach during asset verification activities
Some days may require extended time supporting plant walkthroughs or asset inventories.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3+ years of fixed asset accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience supporting capital expenditure tracking and CIP accounts
- Strong knowledge of GAAP related to capitalization and depreciation
- Experience working within ERP accounting systems
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Chemical or industrial manufacturing experience
- Experience supporting inventory accounting
- Experience supporting cost accounting functions
- CPA or CPA-track preferred
- Experience working directly with plant engineering teams
