Duties
- Assist healthcare providers with patient intake, including collecting medical histories and vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure all necessary supplies and equipment are ready for patient visits.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures to collect blood samples accurately and safely for laboratory testing.
- Support medical documentation by recording patient information in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems with precision and attention to detail.
- Administer medications and injections under physician supervision, following proper protocols for medication administration.
- Manage appointment scheduling, patient check-in/out processes, and medical records management to streamline clinic operations.
- Assist in specialized areas such as dermatology or hospital medicine by supporting procedures like wound care or inpatient care activities.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality and ensuring accurate medical records documentation.
- Support emergency situations with basic life support (BLS) skills, including CPR when necessary.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care across outpatient, inpatient, trauma center, or geriatric settings.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant or in a similar medical office role with knowledge of medical terminology and physiology.
- Hands-on experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and electronic medical records (EMR).
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications such as phlebotomy or medication administration are a plus.
- Familiarity with dermatology procedures, hospital medicine practices, urgent care protocols, and emergency medicine is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases), pharmacology principles, and medical documentation standards.
- Previous inpatient or outpatient experience within trauma centers or Level I/II trauma centers enhances your candidacy.
- Excellent patient service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and compassionately across diverse populations.
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments such as emergency departments or hospital settings while maintaining attention to detail.
