Position Summary
The Accounts Receivable & Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for managing outstanding insurance and patient balances while ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement. This role focuses heavily on aging accounts, insurance follow-up, insurance refunds, patient refunds, and resolving complex billing issues.
Responsibilities
- Review and work insurance and patient aging reports.
- Investigate and resolve unpaid, denied, or underpaid insurance claims.
- Submit corrected claims and appeals as appropriate.
- Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status and payment issues.
- Process insurance overpayment refunds accurately and timely.
- Process patient refunds while ensuring compliance with payer and practice policies.
- Post adjustments as appropriate and maintain detailed account documentation.
- Work collaboratively with providers, front office staff, and other billing team members.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Medicare, commercial payer guidelines, and practice policies.
- Maintain productivity and quality standards while managing assigned work queues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous medical billing or medical accounts receivable experience.
- Experience working insurance aging and claim follow-up.
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and insurance billing practices.
- Strong understanding of EOBs, claim denials, and payment posting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems is preferred.
