Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Diesel Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Welder to join our team. This role is heavily focused on the diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and rebuilding of diesel-powered heavy construction equipment, commercial trucks, and trailers, while also utilizing welding and fabrication skills to repair and reinforce damaged components.
The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, extensive experience working on diesel engines and hydraulic systems, and the ability to perform structural welding and fabrication repairs on heavy equipment. This individual must be self-motivated, dependable, safety-conscious, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced shop environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Diesel Equipment Repair & Maintenance
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, fuel systems, cooling systems, and drivetrain components.
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections and services on heavy equipment and commercial trucks.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Repair and replace cylinders, pumps, hoses, valves, motors, and hydraulic components.
- Perform engine overhauls, undercarriage repairs, powertrain repairs, and major component replacements.
- Inspect equipment for operational issues and recommend corrective repairs.
- Complete equipment rebuilds and major repair projects.
- Utilize diagnostic software and testing equipment to identify mechanical and electrical problems.
Welding & Fabrication
- Perform MIG, Stick (SMAW), and Flux-Core welding on heavy equipment and truck components.
- Repair cracked, worn, and damaged structures on excavators, dozers, loaders, haul trucks, trailers, and other construction equipment.
- Rebuild buckets, booms, stick assemblies, dump bodies, truck frames, and other structural components.
- Fabricate custom parts and assemblies from blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions.
- Install wear plates, reinforcement packages, and structural modifications as required.
- Operate fabrication equipment including plasma cutters, oxy-fuel torches, presses, ironworkers, and saws.
- Perform line-boring preparation and heavy equipment component repairs.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain detailed repair records and complete work orders accurately.
- Ensure repairs meet manufacturer specifications and company quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all OSHA and company safety policies and procedures.
- Work closely with shop personnel and equipment operators to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability.
- Participate in emergency equipment repairs when necessary.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic, preferably with heavy construction equipment, commercial trucks, or agricultural equipment.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, powertrain systems, electrical diagnostics, and heavy equipment repair.
- Welding and fabrication experience required.
- Proficiency in MIG, Stick, and Flux-Core welding processes.
- Ability to read hydraulic schematics, service manuals, electrical diagrams, and fabrication drawings.
- Experience operating diagnostic software and troubleshooting equipment failures.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in physically demanding conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Volvo, Case, Kobelco, Hitachi, or similar heavy equipment.
- CDL Class A or B.
- Welding certifications.
- ASE Diesel Certification or equivalent experience.
- Experience with hydraulic system rebuilding and troubleshooting.
- Field service experience is a plus.

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
