USAM DC is seeking a Drafter / Submittal Engineer – Architectural Millwork to support our engineering team on custom commercial projects.
This is a detail-driven, production-focused role responsible for preparing shop drawings and submittals, translating design intent into fabrication-ready documentation, and supporting multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
This position is ideal for someone with drafting experience in millwork or construction who is comfortable working with AutoCAD, collaborating across teams, and managing multiple tasks while ensuring accuracy and alignment with production requirements.
What You’ll Do:
- Prepare and update shop drawings and submittals based on architectural plans and design intent
- Utilize AutoCAD and Microvellum to draft and detail assigned work
- Process releases for production, including reports, cutlists, and documentation
- Interpret architectural drawings and translate them into production-ready documents
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and project management teams
- Track and manage assigned tasks, ensuring timely completion
- Attend weekly engineering meetings to review assignments and priorities
- Produce custom construction details as needed to meet project requirements
- Maintain understanding of materials, hardware, and fabrication methods
- Review and incorporate redlines, revisions, and updates into drawings
- Support communication and documentation related to engineering and project scope
- Prioritize multiple assignments and manage workload effectively
- Other tasks as needed
What We’re Looking For:
- 3+ years of experience drafting with AutoCAD (Microvellum experience strongly preferred)
- Experience in architectural millwork or related construction industry
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications
- Familiarity with millwork production methods and fabrication processes
- Knowledge of AWI standards is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting work
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel preferred)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Wood Technology, or related field (preferred)
