Duties
- Perform clothing alterations including hemming, taking in or letting out seams, resizing, and repairing garments for both men's and women's wear.
- Use sewing machines, hand sewing techniques, and pressing machines to ensure high-quality finishes on all garments.
- Operate pressing machines and press garments to achieve crisp seams and professional presentation.
- Consult with customers to understand their tailoring needs, provide expert advice on fabric materials, and ensure their expectations are met or exceeded.
- Construct custom apparel pieces from pattern drafting to final stitching, ensuring proper garment construction and fit.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace with proper handling of fabric materials and sewing tools.
- Follow safety procedures when operating sewing equipment and press operation machinery to ensure a safe working environment.
Skills
- Proven experience in clothing alterations, garment sewing, and fashion retail environments.
- Strong knowledge of fabric materials, stitching techniques, and garment construction principles.
- Proficiency with sewing machines, hand sewing tools, pressing machines, and press operation.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly about tailoring options and garment care.
- Skilled in men's wear tailoring, women's wear tailoring, and custom apparel production processes.
- Ability to perform basic math for measurements, pattern adjustments, and fitting calculations accurately.
- Familiarity with fabric types used in various clothing items and understanding of garment fitting standards.
