The Transportation Worker 2 Equipment Operator will report to the Nicholas County Headquarters. This position, under general supervision, performs full-performance level skilled work in the construction and maintenance of highways. Duties include: operating motorized highway maintenance equipment such as skid steer, utility tractor, aerial bucket truck, front-end loader, tandem-axle truck, and snowplow. Making major repairs to highways, culverts, and bridge structures. Making minor mechanical repairs in the field such as changing tires, blades, or filters. Responsible for equipment maintenance including but not limited to cleaning and lubricating equipment and checking fluid levels. Flagging, erecting traffic control signs and barricades on construction and maintenance projects, shoveling materials, cleaning culverts, mowing, and brush cutting. May be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather. Performs other related duties as required.

The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program. Progression through the apprenticeship program is dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, as well as maintaining and/or obtaining a class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

The WVDOT is responsible for the planning, construction, maintenance, and regulation of over 35,000 miles of state roads. This duty may necessitate employees working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and more than 40 hours per week, occasionally without prior notice.

In the area of assignment of Equipment Operator, a valid class A or class B Commercial Driver’s License is required.

Tier 1 hourly rate: $17.5313
