REGISTERED NURSE - ONCOLOGY - DEARBORN, MICHIGAN- FULL-TIME
GENERAL SUMMARY:
To provide the utmost care with emotional support and stability to assist patients and their families work through the treatment process. Must possess a wide range of clinical and soft skills in order to be most effective. The Oncology Nurse must be able to keep accurate records, attend to a great number of details while working under pressure and be able to effectively communicate technical information to patients and their families, physicians and co-workers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide care for patients during chemotherapy treatment process.
- Mathematical abilities required in keeping with standards of nursing practice in order to safely administer chemo agents.
- Initiates IV access, administers IV chemotherapeutic agents and monitors patients for safety and response at all times.
- Manage patient symptoms and must possess assessment skills and be able to prioritize effectively and respond appropriately to changes in patient status.
- Create a supportive treatment environment.
- Orders and accounts for medical supply stock and chemotherapy administering supplies.
- Assist patients with care and concern in managing complicated and technical treatments.
- Accurately record the patient’s treatment history.
- Provide educational information to patients, patient’s family, etc. pertaining to the administration of chemotherapy. Answer inquires and provide advice as needed with important patient education detail.
- Assist patients who have received acute diagnosis with utmost concern and care.
- Assessment of patients prescriptions, diagnosis, pertinent labs, and patients’ condition.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Must possess a wide range of clinical nursing skills. Must be able to provide appropriate clinical treatment as directed by Oncologist for specific diagnosis.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Four year degree in the practice and study of oncology nursing. 2-5 years of experience working as an oncology nurse in a clinical setting.
