The Portland Timbers are looking for a Benefits Specialist to join our Human Resources team. This role will be the main point of contact for Benefits for our full-time staff and our service providers. This role will also play an important role supporting other areas of HR. There will be room for growth for individuals looking to expand their experience into Payroll and other areas of HR.
As a company with less than 200 full-time employees our benefits and administrative needs are not complex, however we seek to provide a high level of service to our employees and make sure they get full value from their benefits, and we are continuously looking at ways to improve our offerings and our service.
Key Responsibilities:

Benefits Administration – Own the benefits function to ensure our plans meet the needs of our staff and administration runs smoothly for employees, carriers and in conjunction with payroll.

Maintain knowledge on our medical, dental and vision plans. 401k plan. PTO and Leave plans. Workers Comp, and any other benefits offered by Peregrine Sports

Plan and execute benefits and wellness fairs in conjunction with our brokers and carriers

Provide benefits education to staff so they understand and gain value from their benefits

Work with our Brokers for our health benefits and 401k plan to ensure oversight and continuously improve service delivery and plan options.

Work with the VP of HR to develop a strategy and plan for benefits renewals and open enrollment, as well as execute the open enrollment.

Provide back up support to payroll to ensure accuracy and redundancy of the payroll function. Including occasionally running either a full or partial payroll cycle.

Work extensively in our HRIS system to ensure data is organized, accurate and accessible. This includes making our HRIS a resource for all employees as well as a tool for smooth administration of our benefits.

Assist with employee onboarding.

Assist with running reports in our HRIS system.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or commensurate years of additional experience in lieu of a degree

Minimum of 1 -2 years of experience in benefits administration, preferably in a setting with various types of employees.

In-depth knowledge of federal and Oregon regulations related to employee benefits and general employment law.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Detail-oriented with excellent organizational, administrative, and analytical abilities.

Proficient in working within benefits carrier platforms, HRIS software and Microsoft software.
