Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Medical Technologist to join our fertility center’s on-site clinical laboratory team. This position plays an important role in supporting fertility treatment by performing timely and accurate laboratory testing, including hormone testing, initial fertility laboratory panels, and other routine clinical laboratory testing ordered as part of patient evaluation and treatment.
The Medical Technologist will be responsible for specimen processing, laboratory testing, quality control, documentation, and maintaining compliance with applicable laboratory standards. This position will also participate in phlebotomy on a rotating basis, providing direct patient care and ensuring a positive, professional experience for patients undergoing fertility evaluation and treatment.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLaboratory Testing & Specimen Processing
- Perform routine clinical laboratory testing in accordance with established laboratory procedures, manufacturer instructions, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Process and analyze specimens for reproductive and fertility-related hormone testing, which may include estradiol (E2), progesterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), beta-hCG, and other testing performed by the center.
- Process initial and follow-up laboratory testing ordered as part of fertility evaluations and treatment cycles.
- Receive, identify, label, prepare, centrifuge, aliquot, store, and process patient specimens according to established protocols.
- Review test results for accuracy, completeness, and consistency before release according to laboratory policies and authorized scope.
- Recognize abnormal, critical, or questionable results and follow established procedures for repeat testing, verification, documentation, and notification.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the laboratory information system and/or electronic medical record.
- Prioritize time-sensitive fertility testing to support clinical decision-making and same-day patient treatment plans.
Quality Control & Laboratory Operations
- Perform and document required quality control, calibration, maintenance, and instrument checks.
- Identify and troubleshoot instrument, reagent, specimen, and testing issues and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and laboratory policies.
- Monitor laboratory supplies, reagents, controls, and testing materials and assist with inventory management.
- Follow established procedures related to reagent storage, expiration dates, lot verification, and documentation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- Participate in proficiency testing, competency assessments, quality assurance activities, and laboratory inspections as required.
- Follow all applicable CLIA, OSHA, infection-control, safety, and organizational policies and procedures.
Phlebotomy & Patient Care
- Participate in the center’s rotating phlebotomy schedule.
- Perform venipuncture and blood specimen collection using proper patient identification and specimen-labeling procedures.
- Confirm patient identity and required laboratory orders before specimen collection.
- Provide professional, compassionate, and efficient care to patients throughout the blood-draw process.
- Properly handle, label, transport, and process collected specimens to maintain specimen integrity.
- Recognize and appropriately respond to common complications associated with blood collection.
- Maintain phlebotomy supplies and ensure collection areas remain clean, organized, and appropriately stocked.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, medical assistants, laboratory personnel, and other members of the fertility care team.
- Communicate laboratory results and testing concerns promptly and according to established protocols.
- Assist clinical staff with questions regarding specimen requirements, collection procedures, testing timelines, and laboratory processes.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements at all times.
- Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, empathy, and sensitivity when interacting with fertility patients.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related laboratory science field preferred or required based on applicable regulatory requirements.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist program preferred.
- Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred.
- Experience with immunoassay and/or hormone testing strongly preferred.
- Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Experience in reproductive medicine, fertility care, women’s health, endocrinology, or a specialty medical practice is a plus.
Certification & Licensure
- ASCP, AMT, or other nationally recognized Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist certification preferred or required as applicable.
- Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements for performing moderate- and/or high-complexity laboratory testing applicable to the position.
- Current CPR/BLS certification may be required based on organizational policy.

Schedule
The position requires flexibility to support the operational needs of a fertility center and laboratory. Scheduling may include early mornings, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis, depending on patient treatment schedules and laboratory needs.
The Medical Technologist will also participate in a rotating phlebotomy assignment as part of the regular schedule.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods while performing laboratory testing.
- Ability to perform repetitive fine-motor tasks associated with specimen processing and laboratory instrumentation.
- Ability to perform venipuncture and other routine specimen-collection activities.
- Ability to safely handle biological specimens and laboratory materials while following universal precautions.
- Ability to lift and move laboratory supplies and equipment within reasonable occupational requirements.
