Preventive Maintenance TechnicianPosition Summary
The Preventive Maintenance Technician is responsible for completing scheduled preventive maintenance on production equipment, machinery, and facility systems to help prevent breakdowns and maintain reliable operations.
This position will work closely with the Maintenance A Mechanic, especially when troubleshooting, coordinating repairs, or identifying larger mechanical issues. However, the PM Technician is expected to work independently for the majority of the day, managing assigned work and completing preventive maintenance according to a strict PM schedule.
This is a hands-on position for someone who is dependable, organized, mechanically inclined, and able to stay on task without constant supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Execute daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual preventive maintenance according to the established PM schedule.
· Work independently to ensure assigned PMs are completed on time and thoroughly.
· Inspect machinery and equipment for wear, damage, leaks, loose components, abnormal noise, vibration, or other potential problems.
· Perform routine maintenance such as lubrication, adjustments, cleaning, belt and chain inspections, filter changes, bearing inspections, and other scheduled maintenance.
· Work closely with the Maintenance A Mechanic when repairs, troubleshooting, or higher-level mechanical work is required.
· Communicate equipment concerns to the Maintenance A Mechanic and/or supervisor before they develop into larger problems.
· Complete PM documentation accurately, including work performed, parts used, equipment condition, and follow-up work needed.
· Maintain an organized supply of commonly used PM parts, lubricants, filters, and other maintenance materials.
· Follow established lockout/tagout and other company safety procedures.
· Maintain a clean and organized work area.
· Assist the Maintenance A Mechanic with equipment repairs, installations, and maintenance projects when needed.
· Help identify opportunities to improve PM procedures and equipment reliability.
Independence & Accountability
A major expectation of this position is the ability to work independently and stay on schedule.
The PM Technician will receive an established preventive maintenance schedule and is responsible for organizing and completing that work without needing constant direction from the Maintenance A Mechanic or supervisor.
The successful candidate must be comfortable:
· Working independently for extended periods.
· Following a structured and strict PM schedule.
· Prioritizing assigned PM work and managing their own time.
· Recognizing when a task can be completed independently and when assistance from the Maintenance A Mechanic is needed.
· Taking ownership of assigned equipment and PM responsibilities.
· Documenting completed work accurately.
· Communicating immediately when a PM cannot be completed as scheduled or when a larger equipment problem is discovered.
Qualifications
· Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
· Previous industrial, manufacturing, mechanical, or maintenance experience preferred.
· Basic understanding of mechanical equipment, bearings, belts, chains, motors, lubrication, fasteners, and related components.
· Ability to use common hand and power tools safely.
· Ability to read and follow PM instructions, equipment manuals, checklists, and schedules.
· Strong organizational and time-management skills.
· Dependable attendance and ability to work with limited supervision.
· Ability to recognize mechanical problems and communicate findings clearly.
· Willingness to learn from and work closely with an experienced Maintenance A Mechanic.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
· Ability to bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work around production machinery.
· Ability to safely lift and carry tools, parts, and maintenance materials as required.
· Ability to work in a manufacturing environment around machinery, dust, noise, and changing temperatures.
What Success Looks Like
A successful PM Technician does not simply complete a checklist. They take ownership of the preventive maintenance program for the equipment assigned to them.
Success in this position means PMs are completed correctly and on schedule, equipment concerns are identified early, documentation is accurate, and the Maintenance A Mechanic can rely on the PM Technician to handle routine preventive maintenance independently.
Pay: $18.00 - $30.00 per hour
