Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Survey Crew Party Chief to lead a field survey crew on a variety of projects, including boundary, topographic, construction, ALTA/NSPS, and utility surveys. The Party Chief is responsible for supervising the survey crew, operating survey equipment, ensuring data accuracy, and maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently while maintaining clear communication with project managers, office staff, and clients.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a survey field crew.
- Perform boundary, topographic, construction layout, ALTA/NSPS, and as-built surveys.
- Operate GPS, robotic total stations, digital levels, and data collectors.
- Collect accurate field data and maintain detailed field notes.
- Read and interpret construction plans, plats, deeds, and legal descriptions.
- Ensure survey equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
- Train and mentor Survey Helpers and Instrument Operators.
- Coordinate daily field activities and communicate project progress.
- Follow company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Travel to project sites and work overtime as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3–5 years of land surveying field experience.
- Previous experience as a Survey Party Chief preferred.
- Proficient with GPS, robotic total stations, and data collection software.
- Ability to interpret engineering and survey plans.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Walk long distances over uneven terrain.
- Bend, climb, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Trimble survey equipment.
- CST certification or Louisiana Professional Land Surveyor intern credentials are a plus.
Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
