Desert Recovery Centers is seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide high-quality psychiatric care for adults receiving residential and outpatient behavioral health treatment.
As a valued member of our multidisciplinary team, you will conduct psychiatric evaluations, provide medication management, develop individualized treatment plans, and collaborate with therapists, nursing staff, case managers, and other clinical professionals to support each client's recovery journey.

Position Summary
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and ongoing psychiatric care for adults with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders. The PMHNP will work closely with the interdisciplinary treatment team to ensure clients receive individualized, evidence-based care throughout treatment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including mental status examinations and diagnostic assessments.
- Complete psychiatric evaluations for new admissions within 48 hours of admission.
- Diagnose and treat a variety of mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on each client's clinical presentation and treatment goals.
- Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications in accordance with evidence-based practice and applicable regulations.
- Provide ongoing medication management and psychiatric follow-up appointments.
- Educate clients regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment recommendations, and recovery planning.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, nurses, case managers, and other members of the treatment team to coordinate comprehensive client care.
- Participate in treatment team meetings and clinical consultations as appropriate.
- Complete accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the KIPU Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, DEA regulations, and Arizona licensing requirements.
- Provide psychiatric services in person and/or via telehealth based on organizational needs.
Qualifications Required
- Current Arizona Nurse Practitioner license in good standing
- Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)
- Current DEA Registration
- Arizona Controlled Substance Registration (if applicable)
- Current BLS Certification
- Ability to prescribe psychiatric medications independently in Arizona
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and psychopharmacology skills
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
Preferred
- Experience working in residential treatment, behavioral health, substance use treatment, or co-occurring disorders
- Experience providing psychiatric services via telehealth
- Experience using KIPU Electronic Health Record
Compensation
Per-visit contractor compensation. Competitive rates based on service type.
