Duties
- Safely operate a variety of commercial trucks, including tractor-trailers, following all DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) standards.
- Plan and navigate routes using GPS navigation systems to ensure timely delivery schedules while optimizing fuel efficiency.
- Loadproper handling of logistics cargo and hazardous materials in compliance with hazardous materials regulations.
- Transport refrigerated goods, dangerous goods, or other specialized freight across long distances on OTR routes, maintaining the integrity of the cargo throughout transit.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on vehicles to identify maintenance needs or safety issues; document findings accurately.
- Load and secure cargo properly to prevent shifting during transit; handle different types of freight including flatbed loads or tanker shipments with care.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, deliveries, inspections, and compliance with DOT regulations; communicate effectively with dispatch teams for route adjustments or delivery updates.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record; experience operating tractor-trailers and commercial trucks required.
- Proven delivery driving experience with knowledge of route driving and over-the-road (OTR) driving routes.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and other specialized equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, hazardous materials regulations, DOT rules, and safety standards for truck driving.
- Ability to manually handle cargo safely using appropriate equipment like forklifts when necessary; experience with logistics cargo handling is a plus.
- Strong navigation skills utilizing GPS systems; excellent driving skills with a focus on safety and compliance.
- Physical ability to load/unload freight manually or with equipment; capable of handling dangerous goods safely when required.
