SEASONAL GROUNDS
Job Summary
The part-time seasonal grounds employee is a guest-facing position responsible for assisting full-time staff with the upkeep and maintenance of the zoo grounds, interiors capes, greenhouses, and maintaining the botanical collection and overall grounds at the zoo.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Water planted areas and gardens; control weeds andmulch as needed.
Clear brush and assist with invasive species control.
Assist the Browse Coordinator with collecting and distributing plant browses to the animal areas.
Rake leaves, mow grass, and operate weed-eating equipment in exhibits and lawn areas.
Perform litter pickup throughout zoo grounds and perimeter areas.
Maintain clear and safe pathways for visitors.
Assist with the care of interiors capes, greenhouses, and botanical collections.
Plant trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals.
Support volunteer groups, zoo tours, and zoo camp activities as assigned.
Perform tasks assigned by full-time horticulture and ground supervisors and assists other departments as needed.

Ability to communicate effectively and interact positively with visitors and coworkers.
Friendly, professional demeanor and neat appearance.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Willingness to perform outdoor and physically demanding work.
Education and Experience
Previous experience related to groundskeeping, or horticulture is preferred not required.
Other Requirements
Must be at least fourteen (14) years of age.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is performed primarily outdoors in varied weather conditions, including heat and adverse conditions.
Requires physical labor, prolonged walking, bending, and lifting up to thirty (30) pounds.
Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate school and personal commitments.
Part-time position with a maximum of twenty-nine (29) hours per week.
