Job Summary
The Sr. Director, Information Technology Program Delivery & PMO is a senior leadership role responsible for establishing and leading a centralized Program Delivery Center of Expertise (CoE) while simultaneously directing the company's IT investment strategy, portfolio prioritization, and integration execution. This role combines enterprise delivery excellence with strategic portfolio management to ensure all technology programs are aligned with corporate goals, consistently executed, and delivering measurable business value.
This leader will serve as a trusted advisor to the executive leadership team, driving delivery maturity, governance, and value realization across the enterprise. You will oversee portfolios spanning Transformation Execution Office (TEO) initiatives, M&A integrations, and Vertiv's broader IT investment strategy — ensuring every dollar spent on technology delivers tangible, measurable business outcomes tied to our strategic priorities and Digital Strategy.
This role establishes delivery standards, strengthens portfolio visibility, improves execution discipline, and ensures technology initiatives support strategic business outcomes. It balances strategic leadership with operational rigor, building a PMO that is trusted, data-informed, and adaptable across predictive, agile, and hybrid delivery models. The position typically oversees project and program managers, PMO analysts, governance forums, reporting, resource planning, and portfolio performance across a complex IT environment.
Key Responsibilities
CoE Leadership & Strategy
- Establish and lead the Program Delivery Center of Expertise / PMO, including vision, charter, operating model, and roadmap
- Define and maintain enterprise delivery standards, methodologies (Agile, Hybrid, Waterfall), tools, templates, and governance models
- Partner with executive leadership to align program delivery capabilities with strategic priorities and transformation objectives
- Build and scale a world-class program delivery capability that serves as an enterprise enabler for growth, efficiency, and innovation
Strategic Portfolio Management & Prioritization
- Establish and oversee the intake, evaluation, prioritization, and governance of the IT project and program portfolio
- Provide executive level portfolio reporting on status, risk, dependencies, budget, capacity and outcomes
- Partner with IT and business leaders to align investments, sequencing, and delivery plans with strategic objectives
- Ensure the IT portfolio directly supports strategic business goals and objectives
Program & Portfolio Delivery
- Oversee the delivery of critical transformation programs, ensuring scope, schedule, financials, risks, and dependencies are actively managed
- Provide escalation management, issue resolution, and decision support for complex, cross-functional initiatives
- Establish governance forums, cadence, and decision-making models for enterprise programs
- Establish and enforce a clear governance framework for the IT portfolio
- Translate strategy into executable road maps and integrated delivery plans
Resource Management
- Drive resource management and capacity planning across the technology portfolio
- Allocate and manage critical resources, including budget, personnel, and third-party vendors, to ensure portfolio projects are adequately staffed and funded
- Work with IT and business leaders to resolve resource conflicts and optimize resource utilization
Capability Development
- Develop program delivery talent through coaching, mentoring, training, and formal capability frameworks
- Build a community of practice for program and project managers across the organization
- Recruit, train, and manage a dedicated, cross-functional team
- Identify skill gaps and implement continuous improvement initiatives to raise program, and project delivery maturity within IT and across the organization
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Create and present executive level dashboards and reports providing transparent portfolio health visibility, including project status, budget performance, and value
- Drive compliance to delivery standards while promoting pragmatic, value-focused execution
- Influence without authority, aligning diverse stakeholders around common outcomes
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration across all working streams, including IT, HR, Finance, Operations, Sales, and Legal
Requirements:
- Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- Master’s Degree in the above preferred
- 12+ years of Program Management, Delivery, and Portfolio Management
- 5+ years in a senior leadership capacity directing enterprise-scale programs and portfolios
- Demonstrated experience building or leading a Program Management PMO/Center of Excellence
- Experience in a technology or infrastructure company is highly desirable
- Advanced understanding of delivery methodologies (e.g., Agile, Hybrid, Waterfall) and governance models
- Proven ability to lead complex, enterprise-scale initiatives across multiple business units and geography
- Experience in enterprise transformation and PMO maturity improvement
- Certifications in project management (PMP) or program management (PgMP)
- Certification in process improvement (LEAN/Six Sigma) preferred
- Ability to influence across all levels of the organization, building relationships at all levels.
- Understanding of change management methodologies such as, Kotter, Prosci, ADKAR
- Strong ability to collaborate across all levels and with executive leadership, influence decision-making, and foster alignment across diverse teams and geographies
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, inspire collaboration, and navigate cultural and geographic diversity
- Experience in data-driven decision-making and leveraging analytics to guide strategy and measure success
- Experience navigating a global organization
- Consulting background working with a variety of clients and transformation initiatives preferred
- This role is in the office 5 days per week with the potential for domestic/international travel upwards of 25% annually
