Job Title: Payroll Clerk ☒ Non-Exempt
Department: Payroll Compensation: $20.00-$28.00 an hour (DOE)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detailed oriented Payroll Clerk to join our team! This position will assist the Payroll Department, by calculating and entering timekeeping information, assisting with payroll data audits, and ensure compliance with wage and hour regulations. Must have an understanding of wage computation, maintain good communication with staff and employees and observe confidentiality. Poses computer skills with good mathematical background required to perform in an accounting setting.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Essential Functions:
1. Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely weekly payroll processing, maintaining payroll records in payroll software and files
2. Review timecards for completeness and compliance with CA labor laws (meal/break periods, overtime, etc.)
3. Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data accurately, and on time
4. Update payroll records by change of status forms
5. Meets payroll operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements
6. Fulfills wage garnishment requirements by completing forms; adjusting payroll records, documenting and transmitting withholdings
7. Utilize computerized accounting/payroll software programs /NAV/Excel/Word/ to perform duties and responsibilities
8. Communicate with supervisors and employees regarding payroll related questions or concerns
9. Verify PTO/VAC Balances
10. Payroll liabilities by entering federal and state income and social security tax information, 401k transfer and direct deposits, garnishments, etc.
11. Maintain payroll records and files in accordance with state and federal regulations
12. Support the Payroll Manager and team in all other duties as assigned.
13. Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential
14. Assist in payroll audits, and provide necessary documentation as required.
15. Process payroll labor and equipment billing.
16. Operates office equipment including copier, fax machines and 10-key calculator.
17. Reliable transportation to and from jobsite, and consistent attendance
18. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:
1. Minimum Education Required:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
- College level accounting classes, accounting degree preferred
2. Experience:
- 1-3+ year of relevant payroll/accounting experience
- Experience in ag industry preferred
- Experience with payroll software such as NAV, UKG, AOD
3. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Proficient with Microsoft Suites (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) or related software to prepare reports and policies.
- Ability to use payroll software (NAV/AOD, UKG)
- Knowledge of vineyard production and development
- Collaborative team player, strong relationship-building, and active partnership with cross-functional teams
- Ability to use office equipment such as computer, 10key, fax, and copy machine.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of file contents, and handle sensitive information
- Bilingual / Biliterate English & Spanish a plus
4. Physical Requirements:
- Ability to push, pull, carry, and lift up to a maximum of 25 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for periods at a time
- Occasionally required to bend, kneel, bend, and stoop
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach, grasp, hold, handle items, and work with fingers, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.
- Clear vision (close and distant), peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
- Hearing adequate for working safely around office setting
