Duties
- Providing companionship: talking, reading, playing games, watching TV together
- Assisting with basic personal care (if agreed): bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting
- Helping with mobility: walking, transfers, use of mobility aids
- Preparing simple, healthy meals and snacks; encouraging adequate fluids
- Assisting with medication reminders.
- Maintaining a clean, safe environment: light housekeeping weekly related to the client's home (dishes, laundry, tidying), bathrooms, bedrooms.
- Following established routines and behavior plans (especially for clients with memory or behavioral challenges)
- Providing transportation to appointments or activities (if part of the role)
- Observing and reporting changes in mood, behavior, appetite, or functioning to family or supervisor
- Offering emotional support and calm reassurance during confusion, anxiety, or agitation
- Engaging the client in appropriate activities to stimulate memory, movement, and social interaction
- Grocery shopping with the client to educate on healthy natural food choices.
Qualifications
- Experienced providing respite care for adults in home settings
- Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health settings is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of fluid memory.
- Knowledge of basic safety measures in the home (fall prevention, safe environment setup)
- Strong observation skills to notice changes in mood, behavior, or functioning and report to family
- Respect for client dignity, privacy, and autonomy, even when memory is impaired
- Reliable, trustworthy, and able to maintain accurate notes about care and daily activities
- Demonstrated ability to observe patients closely and respond promptly to their needs or emergencies.
- Redirection techniques for confusion and agitation. By way of Motivation/encouragement. Not by force.
- Certification in first aid and CPR is required; additional certifications such as HIPAA training or medication administration are a plus.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities, including physical disabilities.
- Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and able to maintain accurate notes about care and daily activities
