Job Purpose
The Forklift Technician is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on electric, propane (LP), and diesel forklifts and other material handling equipment. This position ensures that all forklifts remain in safe operating condition, minimizing downtime while supporting production and warehouse operations.
The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, follows all safety procedures, and maintains accurate maintenance records.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on forklifts and material handling equipment according to manufacturer recommendations.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, fuel system, steering, braking, and transmission issues.
- Repair and replace defective components, including motors, hydraulic cylinders, pumps, brakes, tires, batteries, chargers, and electrical systems.
- Inspect forklifts regularly to ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and company policies.
- Test equipment after repairs to verify proper operation and safe performance.
- Perform battery maintenance, charging system inspections, and battery replacements for electric forklifts.
- Troubleshoot engine performance issues on LP and diesel-powered forklifts.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance, and parts used.
- Coordinate with supervisors and warehouse personnel to prioritize equipment repairs and minimize operational downtime.
- Identify parts needed for repairs and communicate inventory requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), safety, environmental, and company quality procedures.
- Assist with maintenance of other shop equipment as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Manufacturing or industrial maintenance background preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience repairing and maintaining forklifts or other heavy industrial equipment.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Experience troubleshooting electric, propane (LP), and diesel forklifts.
- Ability to read service manuals, wiring diagrams, and equipment documentation.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills are preferred.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal) as it relates to the position.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is highly preferred.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of forklift maintenance or industrial equipment repair experience.
- Technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics, industrial maintenance, or related field is preferred.
- OSHA Forklift Certification or equivalent is a plus.
Essential Physical Requirements
- Regularly lift, carry, pull, and push up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Frequently squat, kneel, bend, climb, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures.

Required Work Hours and Schedules
- Monday through Friday. 6AM -6PM
- Occasional overtime and weekend work as required to support production operations.
