Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated, positive, and experienced Head Coach to oversee all aspects of our competitive swim program. The ideal candidate is a dynamic leader who brings positive energy to the pool deck, possesses a deep understanding of technical stroke development, and excels at motivating swimmers of all ages and skill levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Leadership: Design and implement a comprehensive, progressive training curriculum for all age groups, from beginners to elite high school competitors.
- On-Deck Coaching: Lead daily practices with high energy, focusing on technical excellence, aerobic conditioning, and mental preparation.
- Staff Management: Mentor, supervise, and collaborate with assistant coaches to ensure a unified coaching philosophy across the entire club.
- Meet Management: Determine swimmer event placements, oversee meet entries, and provide strategic, positive coaching during competitions.
- Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, swimmers, and the Board of Directors, maintaining open, transparent, and timely communication.
The Must-Haves (Experience & Traits):
- Proven Track Record: Previous experience as a Head Coach or Lead Age-Group Coach for a large competitive swim club.
- Positive & Motivating Energy: A coaching style rooted in positive reinforcement, encouragement, and building athlete confidence.
- Strong Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of modern stroke mechanics, turns, starts, and training progression.
- Excellent Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively connect with young athletes, collaborate with the Board, and engage with parents.
- Technological Knowledge: Ability to utilize computer programs related to meet entries, workouts, team website, registration, and email.
Desirable Background & Soft Skills:
- Experience working effectively with a parent-run Board of Directors.
- Strong organizational skills to manage meet entries (Team Unify/Hy-Tek) and seasonal planning.
- A passion for team culture, mentorship, and building a community beyond just the scoreboard.
- Ability to handle conflict with grace, professionalism, and a solution-oriented mindset.
Required Certifications (or willingness to obtain before start date):
- USA Swimming Coach Safety Requirements (or equivalent)
- CPR/AED, First Aid, and Lifeguarding certifications
- Safe Sport Trained certification
- State Clearances for Criminal History and Child Abuse
