Position: Full-Time Facilities Custodian
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (includes a 30-minute lunch break)
Employment: 12 Months per Year – Works Through Summer
Pay: $22.00–$24.00 per hour, based on experience
Location: Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School (approximately 80 students)
Position Summary
Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Full-Time Facilities Custodian to help create and maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for our students, faculty, staff, families, and visitors. This position is an essential part of our school community and plays a vital role in ensuring our campus is ready each day for learning, collaboration, and special events.
Beyond maintaining the building, the Facilities Custodian serves as an important ambassador for the school through daily interactions with students, staff, and families. The successful candidate will support the mission of Mirowitz by helping create a positive, safe, and welcoming environment where everyone can thrive.
Primary ResponsibilitiesCustodial Services
· Clean classrooms, administrative offices, hallways, and common areas on a rotating schedule.
· Clean and sanitize student and staff restrooms daily.
· Empty trash and recycling receptacles daily, when needed, primarily handled by evening crew.
· Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and maintain floors and surfaces throughout the building.
· Operate and maintain floor care equipment, including floor buffers and carpet cleaning equipment.
· Replenish restroom, classroom, and custodial supplies as needed.
· Maintain custodial closets and mechanical room in a clean, organized, and safe manner.
Preventative Maintenance
· Perform routine preventative maintenance to help keep the building in excellent condition.
· Replace light bulbs and ceiling tiles as needed.
· Complete minor repairs such as tightening hardware, adjusting fixtures, changing filters, and other basic maintenance tasks.
· Regularly inspect the building and grounds for maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or equipment issues and promptly report larger repair needs before they become significant problems.
· Assist with maintaining the overall appearance and functionality of the school's facilities.
Daily Operations & Building Safety
· Respond promptly to spills, accidents, weather-related issues, and other unexpected situations during the school day.
· Monitor entrances, hallways, and common areas to help ensure a clean, orderly, and safe environment.
· Help keep designated areas secure throughout the day and assist with opening and securing the building as assigned.
· Support school emergency procedures and safety protocols.
· Follow all school cleaning, health, and safety procedures.
School Events & Community Support
· Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for school programs and events.
· Provide facilities support for Board meetings, Shabbat gatherings, admissions events, performances, graduation, parent programs, and other school activities, including occasional adjustments before or after regular school hours.
· Help ensure event spaces are clean, organized, welcoming, and ready for guests.
· Assist with serving lunch to students when needed and support the smooth operation of the school day.
Inventory & Supplies
· Monitor inventory of custodial supplies, paper products, and cleaning materials.
· Notify supervisors when supplies need to be reordered.
· Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing custodial equipment and supplies.
Summer Responsibilities
During the summer months, when students are not in session, this position focuses on preparing the building for the upcoming school year through:
· Deep cleaning of classrooms, offices, restrooms, kitchens, and common areas.
· Floor stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet cleaning.
· Moving furniture for cleaning and classroom setup.
· Completing annual maintenance projects and assisting with facility improvement projects.
· Assisting with classroom preparation and general building readiness for the new school year.
Qualifications
· Previous custodial or janitorial experience required.
· Experience working in a school setting is preferred.
· Experience operating floor buffing equipment is preferred.
· Basic maintenance or handyman experience is preferred.
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.
· Reliable, punctual, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
· Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, safe facility.
· Positive attitude and commitment to providing excellent service to students, staff, families, and visitors.
Requirements
· Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
· Must be authorized to work in the United States.
· A valid driver's license is preferred.
