Job Summary
The Electrical and Computer Engineering Lab Manager supports the functions of Electrical and Computer Engineering laboratories, keeps inventory, installs, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment and instrumentation, including computers, servers, related peripherals, and networking equipment, and assists faculty, students, and researchers with resolving technical issues, installing upgrades, maintaining networks, and ensuring laboratory safety protocols are followed. This role supports the department by providing the lab’s systems are functional and up to date for project work and assignments.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

Maintains lab equipment inventory and updates software and hardware.

Sets up lab equipment, including computers, servers, related peripherals, and networking equipment.

Assists faculty, students, and researchers with the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computer hardware, software, networking, and other lab equipment and instrumentation.

Trains and supervises lab assistants and students on the use of software and hardware.

Prepares lab schedules and works with faculty and researchers to develop laboratory experiments and procedures.

Dispenses hardware/software and documentation to faculty as needed.

Interface with the IT department to administer and deploy networking operating systems such as Windows and Linux.

Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education/Experience
-
High school diploma.
-
Related technical training.
-
One year of related work experience.

A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Certifications/Licenses
-
Certification in computer networking, data processing, and/or information technology preferred.
Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Knowledge of the operation of basic electrical engineering lab equipment and computers.

The ability to train and supervise students on the use of hardware and software.

The ability to determine hardware, software, and/or connectivity problems and arrange for maintenance and repair.

The ability to perform physical activities such as lifting equipment (up to 30 lbs.), bending, and standing for extended periods.

The ability to communicate effectively.

Knowledge in computer networking, data processing, and/or information technology.

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
