JOB SUMMARY:
The Operations Training Supervisor is responsible for supervising warehouse operations while supporting employee training, development, and workforce readiness initiatives across the facility. This position serves as a floating supervisor, providing operational leadership and supervisory coverage across all shifts and departments as needed.
Working in partnership with the HR Department, the Operations Training Supervisor supports onboarding, employee development, equipment certifications, and operational training initiatives to ensure team members are prepared to perform safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Leadership
- Coordinate and supervise daily warehouse operations including receiving, shipping, inventory control, put-away, replenishment, and order selection.
- Provide supervisory coverage for all shifts and departments as needed during supervisor absences, vacations, leaves, or business demands.
- Determine staffing requirements and assign workloads to meet operational goals and customer expectations.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings, communicate operational priorities, and ensure effective shift-to-shift communication.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive operational efficiency, productivity, quality, and safety improvements.
- Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are processed accurately and damage-free.
- Maintain warehouse cleanliness, organization, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Assist with employee scheduling and labor planning to support fluctuating workloads.
- Support implementation of operational procedures, process improvements, and cost-saving initiatives.
Cross-Shift Leadership Support
- Serve as the designated supervisory backup for all warehouse shifts and departments.
- Provide leadership coverage during supervisor absences, vacations, leaves, training events, and staffing shortages.
- Maintain consistency in operational execution, employee accountability, safety standards, and communication across all shifts.
- Partner with supervisors and leadership to identify operational challenges and implement solutions that improve productivity and service levels.
- Training & Development
- Partner with the HR Department to support facility onboarding, training, and employee development initiatives.
- Facilitate operational training for new and existing employees, ensuring compliance with company procedures and safety standards.
- Track new hire progress and productivity during introductory periods and provide feedback to leadership regarding readiness for independent performance.
- Maintain training records, training matrices, certifications, and employee development documentation.
- Coordinate and conduct MHE evaluations, certifications, and recertifications in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
- Identify skill gaps and training needs and communicate recommendations to leadership and HR.
- Provide coaching and skills development support to supervisors, leads, and team members.
- Support the rollout and reinforcement of company-wide training programs, policies, and compliance initiatives.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and maintain a culture of safety throughout the facility.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, food safety standards, BRC requirements, and company policies.
- Conduct safety observations, training audits, and operational assessments.
- Coordinate MHE training, evaluations, certifications, and recertifications.
- Participate in incident investigations and assist with corrective action implementation.
- Ensure employees follow all operational, safety, and food safety procedures.
Leadership & Employee Development
- Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors, leads, trainers, and hourly employees.
- Assist with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retention initiatives.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching, counseling, and corrective action documentation as needed.
- Support employee engagement initiatives and contribute to retention strategies.
- Partner with site leadership to analyze turnover trends, training effectiveness, and workforce development opportunities.
- Serve as a resource for supervisors and team members regarding operational processes and employee development.
- Partner with the HR Manager to implement facility training and development initiatives.
- Facilitate onboarding and operational training programs for new hires.
- Coordinate and track employee training completion, certifications, and development plans.
- Provide coaching and skills development support to supervisors, leads, and team members.
- Assist HR with leadership development, employee engagement, and retention initiatives.
- Support the rollout of company-wide training programs, policies, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain training records, training matrices, certifications, and employee development documentation.
- Conduct MHE evaluations and certify employees in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
- Identify skill gaps and recommend training opportunities to leadership and HR.
- Other Responsibilities
- Represent the company at customer visits, industry events, trade shows, recruiting events, training seminars, and community engagement activities as assigned.
- Ability to perform the same duties as warehouse personnel when operationally required.
- Participate on facility teams including Safety Team, HACCP Team, Recall Team, Internal Audit Team, Crisis Team, and other assigned committees.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience facilitating employee training, coaching team members, and supporting workforce development initiatives preferred.
- Experience in cold storage, food distribution, logistics, or warehouse operations preferred.
- Maintain forklift certification and ability to certify others on material handling equipment.
- Strong understanding of warehouse management systems (WMS), RF technology, and operational processes.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety standards, and food safety requirements.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities across varying shifts and departments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to analyze operational data and develop action plans to improve performance.
- Strong conflict resolution and employee relations skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to work in warehouse environments with temperatures as low as -20°F/-25°C.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the essential functions of this job, the associate is required to constantly sit, stand, walk, see, talk, and hear. The associate is frequently required to type and have
- fine motor manipulation. The associate is occasionally required to grasp or feel objects with the hand, reach above, below and at waist level, twist, squat, kneel, climb, and lift and/or move objects up to 70 pounds. Ability to work in cold and below-freezing temperatures is required.
- Fluency in English is a prerequisite for ensuring both the safe and effective performance of all job duties and the successful operation of Flexcold's business practices.
Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
