As a Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician, you'll work alongside experienced veterinarians and a compassionate support team while utilizing modern equipment and the latest veterinary technology to provide exceptional care to our patients.
Job Description: What You'll Do (Core Responsibilities)
As a Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician, you'll play an essential role in delivering high-quality medical care and ensuring our hospital runs efficiently. Responsibilities include:
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and medical procedures.
- Safely restrain patients and ensure their comfort during treatments.
- Obtain patient histories and accurately document medical records.
- Perform laboratory testing, collect blood, urine, and other diagnostic samples.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Prepare surgical suites, sterilize instruments, and monitor anesthesia (based on experience and credentials).
- Place and maintain intravenous catheters and assist with fluid therapy.
- Take and develop digital radiographs.
- Educate clients on medications, post-operative care, nutrition, and preventative healthcare.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and AAHA-compliant hospital environment.
- Collaborate with doctors and teammates to provide exceptional patient care and client service.
Requirements & Qualifications
We're looking for compassionate, dependable team members who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about animal care.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician in a small animal practice.
- Licensed/Registered Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) preferred but not required for experienced candidates.
- Strong animal handling and restraint skills.
- Excellent communication and client education abilities.
- Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail.
- Positive attitude and willingness to work collaboratively with the veterinary team.
- Comfortable assisting with surgery, anesthesia monitoring, laboratory diagnostics, radiology, and patient nursing care.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely handle animals of various sizes.
