POSITION PURPOSE
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading all Human Resources functions for the hotel while fostering a positive, engaging, and legally compliant work environment. This position partners with the General Manager and department leaders to recruit, develop, retain, and support a high-performing team that delivers exceptional guest service. The HR Manager ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, Marriott brand standards, and company policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruitment, Onboarding & Training:
· Develop and execute strategic recruiting plans to attract qualified talent.
· Manage the full recruitment lifecycle: post open positions, conduct interviews, and facilitate hiring/onboarding workflows.
· Partner with department managers to maintain appropriate staffing levels and support succession planning.
· Coordinate comprehensive new hire orientation, required compliance training, and brand-standard certifications.
· Develop leadership training and professional development initiatives to promote employee growth and internal career pathing.
Employee & Labor Relations:
· Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and associates regarding complex and sensitive employee relations matters.
· Investigate employee complaints, workplace issues, and grievances promptly, objectively, and professionally.
· Guide and coach department managers through progressive discipline, performance improvement plans (PIPs), and conflict resolution to minimize organizational risk.
· Administer and interpret collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) in direct partnership with hotel leadership.
· Serve as the primary HR contact for labor relations matters involving UNITE HERE Local 1 and IUOE Local 399.
· Maintain productive, professional working relationships with union representatives while firmly protecting the hotel's operational and financial interests.
· Advise management on contract interpretation, progressive discipline, attendance policies, seniority tracking, and scheduling compliance under the CBAs.
· Participate in collective bargaining negotiations and support ongoing contract administration.
Compliance, Safety & Administration:
· Ensure absolute compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, and local fair workweek/leave ordinances.
· Maintain highly confidential personnel files, applicant flows, and HR records in strict accordance with legal requirements and Marriott standards.
· Oversee the administration of employee benefits programs, coordinate annual open enrollment, and drive employee benefit education.
· Manage employee leaves of absence (LOA), workers' compensation claims, unemployment claims, and interactive reasonable accommodation (ADA) processes.
· Partner with payroll administrators to ensure wage changes, compensation adjustments, and hours are processed accurately and timely via the iSolved payroll system.
· Support workplace safety initiatives, coordinate OSHA compliance, oversee safety training, and manage accident investigations.
Culture & Engagement:
· Plan, coordinate, and budget employee recognition programs, surveys, and appreciation events to drive a positive workplace culture.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
· Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field preferred. Professional HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR) is highly desirable.
· Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, with at least 2 years in a management-level role within a full-service hotel environment.
· Labor Knowledge: Demonstrated on-site experience working within a unionized hotel, including hands-on administration and interpretation of collective bargaining agreements (specifically with UNITE HERE Local 1 and IUOE Local 399 or comparable hospitality/engineering unions).
· Technical Skills: Proficiency with applicant tracking systems, and payroll software preferred.
· Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English. Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish) are preferred.
· Core Competencies: High emotional intelligence, strict adherence to confidentiality, sound situational judgment, conflict resolution, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK SCHEDULE
· Ability to walk, stand, and move throughout all areas of the hotel property for extended periods to engage with multiple shifts.
· Ability to perform standard sedentary office work, including prolonged computer use and data entry.
· Ability to occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 20 pounds.
· Schedule Flexibility: Position requires flexibility in working hours, including occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays, to support a 24/7 hospitality operation and meet the needs of all property associates.
