The DSPs we are looking to add to our team will have at two years of recent, verifiable experience working as a Direct Support Professional and are available for afternoon, overnight and/or weekend shifts. All Direct Support Professionals work at least one weekend day per weekend.
DSPs will complete a variety of task that support program participants impacted by intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or acquired brain injuries to have active, full and fulfilling lives and to be engaged, active members of the communities in which they live.
DSPs will:
- Perform as mentors and advocates; supporting individuals to be engaged in activities that further independent living skills. Those activities may include but not be limited to, continuing education, paid employment, volunteerism, social groups, etc.
- Promote dignity and self-worth; assisting individuals to have high self-esteem and to be empowered to make good and informed choices and decisions regarding all aspects of their lives.
- Complete routine tasks that consist of actively demonstrating and supporting individuals to practice good personal hygiene including bathing, oral hygiene and toileting, to choose, plan and prepare healthy meals and snacks, to maintain a safe clean home, to launder clothing and other items, etc.
- Model and promote good social skills development and will foster opportunities for individuals to be active in the individuals' community. This may include transporting and supporting individuals to enjoy dining out, shopping and other activities of community integration.
- Administer medications with proficiency and complete electronic documenting.
DSPs will have proven experience/certifications/licensure of the following:
- *Successful completion of the courses of a Direct Support Professional including medication administration, via the College of Direct Support
- *Successful completion and certification of First Aid/CPR/AED
- Valid driver's license and a willingness to utilize the DSPs personal vehicle to facilitate for individuals to be engaged in activities within the larger community. Mileage reimbursement for miles driven in the commission of duties may apply.
*Required, paid trainings in First Aid/CPR, medication administration, etc. will be provided as needed to the best-fit candidate.
