Liability and Bodily Injury Claims Specialist
Location: Bloomington, IN
Hybrid Role: 3 days in the office and 2 days remote
Summary
As a Claims Specialist - Bodily Injury, you will investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve liability claims involving bodily injury and property damage. You will work closely with insureds, claimants, attorneys, independent adjusters, and internal business partners to deliver fair claim outcomes while providing exceptional customer service throughout the claims process.
What You'll Do
- Investigate liability claims involving bodily injury and property damage.
- Review coverage, evaluate liability exposure, and establish appropriate claim reserves.
- Gather and analyze claim documentation, medical records, witness statements, and other relevant information.
- Develop claim strategies and negotiate settlements within established authority.
- Maintain accurate documentation and proactively manage claims toward timely resolution.
- Communicate regularly with insureds and other stakeholders throughout the life of a claim.
- Manage litigated files by working with defense counsel, coordinating discovery, and supporting mediations and trials.
- Identify subrogation opportunities and communicate risk concerns to Safety and Underwriting.
- Stay current on negligence laws, medical terminology, and industry trends affecting claims handling.

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- 1-2 years of experience in a liability claims environment or related insurance field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to analyze claim facts, medical records, and supporting documentation.
- Organizational skills necessary to manage a high-volume caseload.
- Proficiency with computer systems and claims-related technology.
- Ability and willingness to work additional hours as needed, including occasional nights, weekends, and travel.
- Valid driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and reliable personal transportation for business travel.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required insurance adjuster licenses.
Preferred
- Prior bodily injury claims experience.
- Industry coursework or designations such as CPCU, AIC, or related claims certifications.
- Knowledge of state negligence laws, litigation practices, and medical terminology.
- Experience working with attorneys, independent adjusters, and other claim service providers.
- Transportation, trucking, or commercial insurance claims experience.
