Job Summary
Join our team as an Above-Ground Maintenance and Gas Meter Technician and become a vital part of ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient utility services. In this energetic role, you will perform maintenance, and inspection of gas meters and related equipment in outdoor environments. The Above-Ground Maintenance and Gas Meter Technician performs natural gas field work at residential and commercial customer premises. The technician inspects, maintains, activates, deactivates, and documents above-ground gas facilities and meter sets while protecting public safety, customer property, and utility system integrity.
Training, Field Readiness, and Vehicle Assignment
- QM3 provides required classroom, hands-on, Operator Qualification, ride-along, and supervised field training.
- A company vehicle may be assigned based on operational need, deployment requirements, driving eligibility, vehicle availability, routing efficiency, and management approval.
Responsibilities
- Perform assigned leak inspections, above-ground leak remediation, regulator work, service activations and deactivations, meter reads, corrosion treatment, and related field tasks after training and qualification.
- Inspect meter sets, regulators, valves, piping, customer fuel-line connections, and related equipment for leaks, damage, corrosion, unsafe conditions, and abnormal operating conditions.
- Use approved gas-detection instruments, pressure-testing equipment, hand tools, mobile devices, work-order systems, and required PPE.
- Follow all QM3, client, DOT/PHMSA, PSC, OSHA, and task-specific safety procedures; stop work and escalate conditions that are unsafe, unclear, or outside assigned authority.
- Accurately complete work orders, photographs, meter data, material records, customer notices, and electronic documentation.
- Communicate professionally with customers, explain service interruptions and next steps, and protect customer property at every job site.
- Maintain assigned tools, instruments, vehicle, materials, the work environment, and equipment in safe and serviceable condition.
Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass background, drug/alcohol, and client-access requirements.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn technical procedures and tools.
- Reliable attendance and ability to report for an 8:30 a.m. start.
- Ability to work outdoors, drive throughout the day, and communicate professionally with customers
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Work outdoors in heat, cold, humidity, rain, and other normal seasonal conditions; walk across uneven ground, lawns, gravel, slopes, and stairs.
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, reach, push, pull, and enter and exit a service vehicle throughout the day.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or position up to 50 pounds, using team lifting or mechanical assistance when appropriate.
- Maintain sufficient vision, hearing, balance, coordination, and manual dexterity to identify hazards, read instruments, drive safely, and perform mechanical work.
Pay: $17.00 - $27.00 per hour
