Job Summary
The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for general support of the superintendent. The Assistant Superintendent supervises a specific part of the project and is responsible for safety, overall coordination, and the use and care of tools within that area of responsibility. The Assistant Superintendent may also be assigned as the site safety officer, environmental control officer, or other specialty responsibility, if duly qualified. With strong leadership, deep industry knowledge, and a proactive mindset, they will drive operational excellence and foster a collaborative jobsite culture that aligns with HESS’s core values.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead assigned field operations with full responsibility for safety, quality, scheduling, and logistics.
- Assist in completing Daily Reports.
- Coordinate and handle project deliveries.
- Collaborate closely with Superintendent to align field strategy with project objectives, budgets, and client goals.
- Monitor site logistics and sequencing plans to ensure efficient use of space, material handling, and workflow.
- Read, understand and communicate information from construction drawings and specifications.
- Participate in daily and weekly trade coordination meetings, setting expectations and resolving field conflicts proactively.
- Identify problem areas early and assist in developing contingency plans for the successful delivery of the project.
- Participate in Owner progress meetings.
- Assist in Subcontractor Pre-Construction, Preparatory, and Coordination meetings.
- Monitor and document all Third-Party and Jurisdictional meeting and inspections.
- Document/Assist in all Quality Control meetings and inspections.
- Assist in maintaining the Material & Equipment Delivery Tracking Log.
- Assist in maintaining Project Photographic Records.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining current As-Built Records including posting addenda, requests for information, site changes, and clarifications on a weekly basis.
- Assist in review and preliminary approval of all major Trade/Subcontractor submittals and shop drawings.
- Ensure that ALL corporate safety requirements are followed.
- Issue notices of safety violations or dismiss any personnel not performing according to safety requirements.
- Ensure site security, site cleanliness, and site presentation.
Qualifications
- 4-7 years of progressive experience in commercial construction.
- Proven track record managing complex $10+million projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field. In lieu of degree, must have eight (8) years of construction experience and knowledge of multiple construction trades.
- Must be capable of learning new technical and non-technical information and applying it in the field in relatively short time periods.
- Must be able to take and give direction and be able to communicate clearly with staff at all levels of field operations.
- Must be a self-starter who can execute and complete assigned activities.
Preferred Certifications
- USACE CQM/NAVFAC
- OSHA 30 Training
- CPR & First Aid Certification
- USACE 24 HR Fall Protection Competent Person
Optional (but Preferred) Certifications
- LEED AP BD+C (Building design + Construction)
- LEED Green Associate
- OSHA 7215 – Silica in Construction
- HAZWOPER 40 HR (Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response)
- Asbestos Awareness

- Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. (a company car and gas allowance is provided for this position)

Pay: $95,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
