PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Therapist’s role is to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, and provide treatment, therapy, and support services to program participants, following the principles of trauma-informed care. They are to advocate for Club Members and provide ongoing support in a way that positively impacts their lives and families. The Social Service Specialists also serve as a support to Program Staff, providing modeling, guidance, and training on trauma-informed care and positive behavioral support interventions. The Social Services Specialist role is a Leadership position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in a consultative relationship with the mental health treatment team, including but not limited to the Director of Social Services, Club leadership, teachers, HERO Case Managers, external providers, and treatment team.
- Provide behavioral and mental health consultations to program participants with responsibility for developing, writing, implementing, evaluating and/or revising treatment plans.
- Administer behavioral/mental health assessments as necessary to address psychological, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
- Provide crisis intervention and consultation to Program Staff, youth, and their families.
- Provide support and education to staff regarding response to behavioral and mental health issues exhibited by youth.
- May assist members and/or their families in linking them to available resources in the community as needed.
- Document participants’ counseling sessions and progress towards achievement of treatment plan goals/objectives and maintain permanent record of their activity according to established methods and procedures.
- Educate and support program participants’ families and advocate for the participants’ rights and preferences.
- Maintain ongoing, reciprocal communication with intra-agency programs, collaborative partners, and other providers regarding participants’ needs and/or progress in the programs, providing the parent/guardian signs a release of information.
- Develop behavioral and/or trauma-informed educational materials and provide training, consultation, and/or modeling services to the program staff that reinforce positive behavior support interventions and facilitation of trauma-informed policies/procedures/practices at each of the Club sites.
- Plan and coordinate events to support specific or emerging mental or behavioral health crisis, condition, or phenomena.
- Participates in family nights as assigned/needed. May facilitate presentations to families and Club members.
- Engages with community partners in facilitating outreach to the families of Club members.
- May provide coverage at other Club sites as assigned and/or needed.
- Additional duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: Maintain close contact with the Director of Social Services to ensure program effectiveness; youth needs, strengths, and interests are being met. Assist Program Specialists as needed in matters of programming and operations at each site. Interact regularly with Club Directors and Club staff.
External: Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, parents, and others.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Master’s degree required.
- State Clinical licensure (LMHC, LCSW, MFT and/or Licensed Psychologist) (required)
- Minimum of two years’ experience with children experiencing trauma, emotional, and behavioral issues. A combination of education, internships, employment, and volunteer work may be considered.
- Must understand and value the principles of trauma-informed care.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- CPR and First Aid Certifications (or obtain within the first three months of employment).
This position is based out of the Jensen Beach High School, but requires flexibility to work at any Club or Community location as needed.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, a shift would fall between 9:00AM to 7:30PM
(could be before or after depending on the location and situation of the day).
Occasional nights and weekend work is required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
