Position overview
The maintenance technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.
The Maintenance Technician will interact with the leadership group, production team members, quality assurance, and other maintenance mechanics to improve and maximize plant output, efficiency, quality, and safety.
Duties include but are not limited to proactively troubleshooting, diagnosing, and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on complex manufacturing equipment. Duties are performed in a high-volume manufacturing environment where maintenance technicians are involved in overhauling of equipment and installation of new equipment.
Position responsibilities/accountabilities:
- Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment.
- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
- Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities.
- Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
- Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
- Possesses a working knowledge of the following equipment:
- MIG/TIG welding equipment
- Arc welding equipment
- Gas and Plasma cutting equipment
- Power tools such as drill presses, cut off saws, lathes, mills and portable power hand tools.
- Electrical test equipment such as voltmeter, megger, ammeter, diode and SCR tester.
- Logic and part knowledge on electrical, mechanical and plumbing
- Works in a team effort with Maintenance Manager/Maintenance Mechanics/ Mechanic assistants/Contractors /production employees to work on production machines, repairs and breakdowns (Troubleshoot).
- Complying with and having thorough knowledge of all American Jerky Company, LLC product quality standards, policies and procedures.
- Contributing and encouraging contribution to the American Jerky Company, LLC team effort.
- Troubleshoot and repair production and plant equipment by performing online repairs and maintenance as necessary to maintain production at target efficiencies
- Performance of building maintenance task in one or more fields (plumbing, carpentry, lighting, painting, up keeping, staff support)
- Knowledge and theory of AC/DC motors, variable speed drives for AC and DC motors, programmable logic controllers and digital/analog electronics necessary to work on a wide variety of large production and material handling equipment
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas, including Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
- Provide line support for changeovers by understanding total process layouts working with Production Technicians on continuous improvement initiatives to solve problems on all equipment
- Troubleshoot PLC and operator interface panels and program Variable Frequency Drives
- Perform and record assigned preventative maintenance tasks
- Ensures all areas are always kept clean (5S)
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
- Exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and up to 50-100 lbs. of force rarely, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
- The employee must be able to walk the production lines frequently
Work environment
- The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
- Hot, cold and wet environmental conditions
- Ability to work carefully around food processing, baking and tumblers/mixing machines including conveyor belts, fans, ovens.
- Hazard: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
qualifications/abilities
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 5 or more years of experience in industrial maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair recommended.
- 3-phase, 230VAC and 480VAC circuits: circuit protection, motor starters, AC and DC drives servos. Low voltage control circuits: PLC I/), proximity switches, photo-eyes, capacitive sensors, conductivity sensors, mechanical and solid state relays, encoders, transducers.
- Welding and machine fabrication with a strong mechanical background is desired.
- Technical certification in any of the aforementioned is desired.
- Good communication skills
- Flexibility to work various hours and shifts
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and five or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience recommended.
- Ability to read schematics diagrams and technical manuals (mechanical and electrical) recommended
