Job Description
The Wabtec location in Jackson, TN is seeking qualified individuals to fill the role of Manufacturing Engineering Technician. The ideal candidate will approach day to day work with a world class attitude while interacting with other team members from other departments. This candidate will possess specialized expertise in technical processes or procedures to perform a broad range of complex work assignments. They will, at times complete work assignments while facilitating the work activities of others. Work completed will take place in all process areas of the facility. The individual will work autonomously within established policies and procedures; proposing improvements to processes as needed.
EXPERIENCE
-
8+ years in a high-performance manufacturing environment (AAS in Mechanical Design or trade school certificate a plus)

Welding: Arc, MIG, and TIG on mild steel, stainless, and aluminum
-
Machining using typical machine shop tolls (Lathes, mills, grinders, etc.)

Plant layout and production flow.

Knowledge of Continuous Improvement methodologies such as TPM, WCM
-
Creating and modifying procedures, work instructions, and job hazard analyses
-
Involvement with capital projects aimed at safety incident reduction, quality rate improvement, and downtime reduction

RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Promote a safe and environmentally friendly culture
-
Perform preventative maintenance tasks on equipment
-
Develop new product tooling
-
Lead and support automation projects including robotic systems, automated material handling, machine integration, and process controls.

Apply PLC knowledge to troubleshoot, support, and improve automated manufacturing systems and equipment.
-
Work closely with Maintenance and Controls personnel to support PLC-based manufacturing equipment and automation initiatives.

Participate in capital equipment projects including equipment specification, procurement, installation, validation, and startup activities.

Conduct process capability studies, time studies, and workflow analyses to identify improvement opportunities.

Collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams during new product launches to establish efficient and repeatable manufacturing processes.

Promote and support Continuous Improvement, TPM, and Lean activities in a world class manufacturing environment

Reviews project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.

Drafts detail drawing or sketch for drafting room completion or to request parts fabrication by machine, sheet metal or wood shops.

Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, servosystems, machine tools, and measuring instruments.

Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and modifies or adjusts equipment to meet specifications.

Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test method.

Process and initiate engineering change requests to drive improvements in quality, cost, lead time, and capacity

Work directly with operators, supervisors, and engineering in running, maintaining, troubleshooting of automated stamping, machining, and assembly equipment

Work with other ME Technicians on projects (quality rate improvements, downtime reduction, etc.)

Provides training to manufacturing operators/production technicians and other staff (as needed) on WIs, change overs, PMs

Gather and analyze process data to reduce tooling costs, maintain or exceed capacity vs. demand targets, as well as other improvement initiatives
