The Waste Technician is responsible for performing / overseeing all Chemical and Hazardous Waste Management Operations as specified in the SOW. This may include insuring compliance with training, providing reporting, etc.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Chemico personnel will continue to maintain all client and ChemicoMays mandated training to ensure regulatory compliance. All Chemico material handlers working on the client site have current DOT, RCRA, Wet Processes, Forklift and LOTO training, as well as other client mandated training. Individual training records will be kept on file by Chemico.
- All material handlers (if they do not already have their 40 Hour HAZWOPER training) will have completed the Supplier 40-hour technician level HAZWOPER within 60 days of notification by client.

Waste Management Support
- Stock oil/chemicals and spill control materials based on client process requirements.
- Prepare materials for proper transport and delivery to the requested delivery location as indicated on the client work order request.
- Store all materials in the client’s main chemical storage yard. All materials will be stored on pallets, racks or containment devices. These materials will be properly segregated in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Conduct weekly inspections of the yard as well as the office on site.
- Maintain the Chemical Approval and SDS website for client.
- Provide a container management program that will maintain inventory of empty containers for accumulation of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes as well as virgin product
- CONTAINER MANAGEMENT - Supply client with properly labeled containers for accumulation and storage of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
- TRANSPORTATION —Inspect waste containers to ensure that they meet DOT packaging requirements prior to loading the trailer. Will follow all DOT regulations for shipping hazardous and non-hazardous waste while loading each trailer for shipment.
- INSPECTIONS/INVENTORY — Conduct weekly inspections of all satellite accumulation and 90-day storage areas. In addition, will conduct inspections of satellite accumulation areas where the waste accumulates more quickly more frequently. Chemico will provide client with a weekly inventory sheet via email to our main client contact. Chemico will immediately notify client of any potential compliance issues noted at the satellite accumulation areas in order to assist in avoiding any potential violations. Chemico will maintain the current sign in sheet, for all waste entering the 90-day storage area as Chemico makes deliveries and pick up waste at the satellite accumulation areas, and Chemico will keep the main point of contact informed of any compliance issues observed. Finally, Chemico will inspect the light bulb trailer weekly.
- UNIVERSAL WASTE — Universal waste will be handled within the same scope for inspections and inventory reporting as other hazardous and non-hazardous wastes at satellite accumulation areas and 90-day storage yard.
- USED OIL TANK TELEMETRY- Monitor the telemetry on the used oil tanks and notify our client point of contact when they tanks are full and ready to ship.
- PUMP TRUCK - Chemico owns the pump truck currently being used at client site. We will continue to provide pumping services utilizing this truck as a part of the management fee as needed to pump oils and water based coolants from locations throughout the facility to transfer to appropriate holding tanks. All Chemico and client safety and compliance regulations will be followed as they pertain to the operation of this truck on client’s site. A log will continue to be kept with the following information: date, time, location, material, amount and location transferred to, for all waste pumped with this truck.
- Chemico will transport on site all containers for accumulation and disposal of hazardous wastes. Full containers must be closed, in good condition and properly labeled prior to being transported to the 90 day yards. Containers must be removed from the accumulation area by the following regular business day after the receipt of a work-order. Upon pick-up, the containers will be dated using the work order date. All containers delivered to the Building 430 90-day yard shall be weighed prior to storage. All containers will be segregated according to chemical compatibility and regulatory requirements.
- Chemico will provide to client, properly labeled containers for the accumulation of industrial wastes. These labels must be completed per DOT, EPA and client requirements. Chemico will include the purchase of these labels as a part of the Chemical Management Contract
- Chemico will conduct weekly inspections and inventory of all hazardous waste satellite accumulation areas and 90- day storage areas as well as any tanks, roll-offs or other storage containers that might be on site at the facility. Upon completion of the inspections the forms generated will be scanned into the computer and e-mailed to the client contact. All corrective actions upon completion will be noted on original inspection form, scanned and e-mailed as an addendum to that dates inspection.
- Chemico will load trucks for all hazardous and non-hazardous waste shipments. Drivers will direct Supplier personnel as to loading requirements for each shipment. All containers must meet DOT packaging requirements prior to loading. Chemico will either supply placards to the carrier for application to the transport vehicle or ensure that the vehicle is equipped with permanent placards sufficient to meet the placarding requirements for the material being hauled prior to leaving the client site.
- All lab pack materials will be taken to the proper location for processing and or disposal.
- Chemico will load trucks for all hazardous and non-hazardous waste shipments. Drivers will direct Chemical Management personnel as to loading requirements for each shipment. All containers must meet DOT packaging requirements prior to loading. Chemico will either supply placards to the carrier for application to the transport vehicle or ensure that the vehicle is equipped with permanent placards sufficient to meet the placarding requirements for the material being hauled prior to leaving the client site.
- Chemico will be the focal point for the lab pack process in the 90-day storage yard at the client’s facility. Chemico will provide containers and packaging for all lab pack collection. Chemico will make routine pickups of all lab pack areas based on rate of generation, at a minimum of 1 shipment per month.
- All containers within the Chemico responsible 90-day storage areas shall be closed to DOT specified torques. Wrenches and closure instructions shall be kept in the storage area at all times.
- Client will monitor the tanks containing oils and water based coolants and provide any work orders to empty the tanks. Chemico will provide pumping of oils and water-based coolants from locations throughout the facility and transfer to specific holding tanks. Chemico will provide monitoring of these tanks to assure shipments are made accordingly. Included in this work will be the pumping of secondary containments as necessary to remove product or rain water.
- Chemico will provide labeling of containers of non-hazardous wastes as required.
- Chemico will load the non-hazardous waste for off-site disposal.
- Chemico shall manage the collection of universal wastes on site. These wastes include but are not limited to, batteries, mercury bulbs and lamps and mercury containing equipment.
- Chemico shall conduct inventory and weekly inspections of the storage area for universal wastes.
- Chemico holds monthly training meetings for all operations employees. Additionally, Chemico maintains complete training records of all employees which are available to client upon request.
- Chemico will supply coverage Monday through Friday 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM with 24-hour emergency delivery coverage. Off shift or weekend work may be required.
Required Qualifications:
- Current and valid licenses
- Must possess or be able to obtain RCRA/DOT and HAZWOPER certifications
Work Environment:
Ability to handle multiple priorities and demands in a fast-paced environment. This job operates in a manufacturing environment. This role also routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. Ability to work in team fostered environment. Ability to work in multi-tasking mode in an environmental compliance environment. Strong personality and focus in fast-paced and demanding environments. Ability to adapt to change quickly as well as multi-task.
Physical Environment:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The RCRA Technician must work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat.. He/she may at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection.
