Smith & Jennings, Inc is a family owned and operated grading and utility contractor out of High Point NC seeking a skilled, reliable, and knowledgeable CCTV operator to join our growing team.
Responsibilities:
· Perform storm sewer, drain and catch basin inspection and cleaning that removes solids, semi-solids, and liquids routinely from lengths and depths of over 100 feet.
· Perform standard CCTV visual assessment operations using robotics technology on various types of pipelines, by operating remote-controlled sewer / storm drain cameras.
· Perform skilled work inspecting sanitary sewer mains, laterals, and manholes.
· Operate video inspection equipment and associated software to perform inspections.
· Accurately document inspection information
· Deploy televising equipment to conduct inspections by directing the movement of the unit through the piping system to capture video.
· Calibrate specific camera components to assess, capture photographs/ videos and reports for piping systems and related infrastructure.
· Sewer cleaning and inspection. Assist Vac Truck Operator with cleaning lines.
· Clean Wet Well/Lift Station to mitigate plugging and damage to pump impellers.
· Perform closed-circuit television video (CCTV) inspection to detect cracks, infractions, blockages, and overall structural conditions.
· Perform smoke testing to determine the source of excess inflow.
· Perform hydro excavating to allow for a non-destructive and accurate way to excavate soil and avoid damage to underground pipes, lines, and cables.
· Confined space entry.
· Deep lift vacuuming
· Maintain televising equipment by adjusting, cleaning, lubricating, and performing minor repairs to keep equipment in good operating condition.
· Ensure equipment is stored in a safe and proper manner.
· Maintain a supply of replacement parts and supplies required to conduct inspections.
· Maintain camera vehicle so that it remains clean to present a professional appearance.
- Identify and assign applicable ratings of defects consistent with NASSCO’s established methodology.
- Use appropriate safety gear while performing work such as ventilating fans, wench, harness and gas monitor.
- Reviews construction drawings, blueprints, and utility plans.
- Maintain records and generate reports documenting inspections performed and assessments of the condition of the facilities inspected.
- Schedule, set up, maintain, and remove appropriate traffic control where required by the project.
- Ensure compliance with all inspection requirements.
- Certify the acceptability of each sewer/ storm job installation/ repair upon its completion.
- Verify location of mapped utilities and assist in revising utility maps.
- May coordinate location points using a Global Positioning System (GPS).
- Use handheld devices to manage, document and report on daily work product.
- Works closely with Utility Crew Foremen to coordinate work.
- Assist with training for personnel hired for similar work.
- Provide labor support as needed for specialty crew.
- Properly use all personal safety equipment.
- Follow all health and safety regulations when operating equipment.
- Maintain a clean job site, pick up all tools and equipment, and secure the job site each day.
- Perform miscellaneous related duties and carry out special projects as assigned.
- Other duties as determined by the needs of the business.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Previous experience in the installation, visual assessment, inspection, rehabilitation and maintenance of underground infrastructure, including sewer pipes, storm drains and other aspects of storm and wastewater systems.
- Must be reliable and able to work within a team environment, as well as lead a team.
- Excellent reading skills. Strong computer skills required. Software knowledge including excel spreadsheets.
- Ability to understand construction warning signs. Adhere to all safety regulations.
- Able to work in an environment with extreme weather fluctuations.
- Have a record of safe vehicle operation (MVR). A valid Class A or B commercial driver's license is required at time of hire and for the duration of employment.
- Must possess strong communication skills, advanced problem-solving abilities, and mechanical aptitude.
- Successful completion of pre-employment, post- offer screenings, including drug test.
- Must possess or acquire and maintain Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP), Lateral Assessment Certification Program (LACP) certification issued by National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO).
Education and Experience:
· Education: High school diploma or GED.
· Experience: Two – Four years of experience (preferred).
· Class B or A License with Tanker (helpful but not required)
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
- Work is performed most frequently outdoors in weather conditions that vary from freezing temperatures to heat above 90 degrees, in wet and dry conditions.
- Work may be performed in confined spaces.
- Some exposure to odors, gases, dust and dirt may occur.
- The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
- Lifting and carrying 10 up to 60 pounds frequently is required.
- Lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Reaching and lifting overhead is frequent.
- Standing, crawling, climbing, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling and reaching most of the time.
- Work may include manual labor up to and including hand digging.
- Some Saturday work is required. Sundays are rarely needed.

Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
