Smyth Industries Engineering Division is currently searching for an individual with Water Infrastructure Industry experience as a Project Engineer to help enhance our current team. We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry.

In your job, you will have the ability to make a difference in the water and reclamation industry by:
Scope: Under supervision, designs and supports construction projects for the water and reclamation industry. Assist our client engineers, rehabilitate, manufacture and construct water distribution and treatment infrastructure. Support and adhere to the Smyth Industries Policies and Procedures, Safety Compliance, and Values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Engineering & Technical Expertise: Apply civil engineering principles to the planning, analysis, design, and construction of water and wastewater infrastructure | Provide technical engineering and consulting services for treatment and distribution systems including pump and lift stations, pipelines, well sites, storage reservoirs, and treatment facilities | Perform or oversee hydraulic modeling, engineering calculations, and system evaluations using industry‑standard design software in compliance with regulatory and design standards. Client & Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders through clear written documentation and verbal presentations | Represent the company in meetings with municipal and private clients, utilities, regulatory agencies, and the public | Build and maintain strong professional relationships with owners, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and internal leadership. Team Leadership & Collaboration: Work effectively within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment | Provide technical oversight and review of engineering work prepared by staff engineers and support personnel | Coordinate with subconsultants, vendors, and suppliers to support successful project execution. Proposal Development & Financial Management: Assist with the preparation of proposals, scopes of work, cost estimates, schedules, and project budgets | Support negotiations related to project scope, fees, and deliverables in coordination with project managers and leadership. Regulatory Compliance & Permitting: Prepare and submit permit applications and supporting documentation to local, state, and federal agencies | Ensure all designs and constructed systems comply with applicable regulations, permits, codes, and industry standards. Quality, Safety & Company Standards: Ensure quality control of engineering deliverables and adherence to project schedules and deadlines | Comply with company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and core values | Maintain accurate, complete, and organized project documentation and records.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or relevant field | 0-3 years of civil engineering work experience. Strong technical writing and documentation skills | Working knowledge of CADD‑related software, including AutoCAD | Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PDF tools | Effective interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills | Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast‑paced project environment | Valid driver's license, pass MVR and drug screening.
Preferred: Experience with water and/or wastewater infrastructure projects | Engineering in Training (EIT) Certification Experience with hydraulic modeling and design software such as WaterCAD, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, EPANET, or similar | Prior experience supporting municipal, utility, or public‑sector clients | Familiarity with local, state, and federal permitting processes and regulatory compliance | Construction support experience, including field inspections, shop drawing review, or contractor coordination | Exposure to project controls including cost estimating, scheduling, or financial tracking | Experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering or consulting environment | Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the future.
