Job Location: Downtown Salinas office, from home and in-person at various schools throughout Monterey County
Starting Pay Range: $28 - 31/hour

About the Organization:
Read to Me Project (RtMP) is a Salinas-based nonprofit organization serving children and families throughout Monterey County. Through in-person coaching in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classrooms, we empower upper-elementary students to become literacy leaders by reading with younger siblings and peers. We also partner with parents and caregivers to build children's language and literacy from the earliest years. Our mission is to empower children and communities to lead through literacy.
Position Summary:
The Program Coordinator delivers the established Read to Me Project curriculum to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students through classroom coaching presentations and small group check-in sessions each month. Coordinators are responsible for scheduling with teachers and coordinating the program at their assigned schools, overseeing student involvement, managing classroom data collection, and taking responsibility for successful program outcomes in assigned classrooms. In addition, each Program Coordinator is responsible for leading one school-based Reader Leader site that includes after-school programming and family engagement. Additional activities may include delivering early literacy parent education sessions. Teaching or presentation skills are essential. Most of the coordinator's time will be spent at school sites throughout Monterey County working with students or delivering parent education sessions. Administrative and scheduling tasks can be completed from home, with some travel to the Read to Me Project office in Salinas required for training, picking up presentation materials, and team meetings. Currently serving schools in Monterey County, we are seeking an individual to create a welcoming and engaging learning experience for students. The Program Coordinator position requires a highly organized individual to be a trainer and advocate with the ability to develop rapport and inspire program participation with students and teachers.
Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
- Implement the curriculum in assigned classrooms and schools according to a specific timeline
- Lead one designated Reader Leader school site, including weekly after-school programming and family engagement.
- Create a friendly atmosphere for students to learn
- Review student reading logs weekly to identify and resolve any challenges teachers and/or students may have
- Prepare, deliver, and maintain classroom book-bins, and train students to manage weekly book check in and out
- Provide classroom teachers and administrators with clear, accurate and regular communications, including setting schedules for classroom presentations
- Collect and manage student program data
- Participate in RtMP staff training sessions and virtual weekly RtMP team meetings
- Potentially deliver practical early literacy curriculum to teen and adult parents
- Represent Read to Me Project professionally at school, family, and community events as needed.

Also Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree, or significant progress toward its achievement, or equivalent life experience
- Proficiency in the use of technology, including G-Suite, spreadsheets, and video conferencing
- Personal computer for program administration
- Ability to travel to program sites throughout all of Monterey County
- Valid California Driver’s License and auto insurance
- Ability to lift 30-35 lbs.
- Fingerprints and Background checks: All personnel working in public schools with children must complete fingerprinting and a background check requirement. (Cost covered by Read to Me Project)
- TB Test: Required by all personnel working in schools. (Cost covered by Read to Me Project)
Preferred, but not required:
- Fluent bilingual/bicultural English/Spanish
- Previous experience within a school or a familiarity with how schools operate
Hours: While required to follow implementation timelines throughout the school year, August through June, and complete other tasks, Program Coordinators have flexibility in organizing their work hours. Work with elementary students is conducted during school hours, with parent education sessions occurring during both day and evening hours. Within Read to Me Project implementation timelines, each Coordinator’s individual work schedule will vary based on school and classroom needs, and the Coordinator’s other time commitments.

Pay: $28.00 - $31.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
