Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Heavy Duty Field Mechanic to join our team that will be supporting a remote location here in Alaska. Location to be discussed during interview process.
Project to be on a rotational schedule. Schedule to be determined in near future. Likely a 1 on 1 off or 2 and 2.
In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy trucks and equipment as well as a fleet of support vehicles. Your expertise will ensure optimal equipment performance, safety, and reliability. This position offers the opportunity to work independently while providing essential service support in diverse environments, ensuring customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
Duties
- Perform comprehensive diagnostics and repairs on truck, heavy equipment and fleet units including heavy trucks, loaders, fork lifts, skid steers, and pickups.
- Conduct maintenance, diagnosis and repair tasks such as oil changes regularly, hydraulic system function issues , transmission servicing, brake repairs, suspension adjustments, electrical failures and more to keep equipment operating at peak efficiency.
- Fabricate custom parts or modifications using hand tools, power tools, welding techniques, and soldering when standard components are unavailable or require adaptation on short notice.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems, hydraulics, HVAC units on machinery, and diesel engines to identify issues accurately and implement effective solutions.
- Utilize heavy lifting techniques safely when handling large components or assemblies during repairs or installations.
- Provide exceptional customer service by communicating clearly with the Service Coordinator and customer regarding repair status, maintenance recommendations, and safety procedures.
- Maintain detailed service records including inspection reports, filter inventory, repair logs, schematics documentation, and parts used for each job to ensure traceability and compliance with safety standards.
Experience
- Verifiable dealership or heavy equipment service technician experience with a strong background in mechanical diagnostics and technical repairs of equipment.
- Hands-on experience with fabrication techniques such as welding and assembly of heavy machinery components.
- Familiarity with functions of heavy equipment like excavators, cranes, forklifts, heavy trucks, tractors-trailers and tankers along with knowledge of OEM parts and specifications.
- Proficiency in reading schematics for electrical systems, hydraulics, transmissions, air brakes, suspension systems, and HVAC units on various machinery.
- Knowledge with different software diagnostic systems
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, soldering equipment, and diagnostic devices essential for effective maintenance work.
- Strong mechanical knowledge complemented by excellent problem-solving skills; experience with automotive diagnostics is a plus.
- Ability to work alone for long periods of time while remaining proficient in your daily tasks.
- Ability to prioritize projects based on customer need and change tasks on short notice due to customer request.

Pay: $48.00 - $55.00 per hour
