Position Summary
The Cook / Kitchen Assistant is responsible for assisting with food preparation, cooking, kitchen organization, and event catering operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring high-quality food production, maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards, and supporting the catering team before, during, and after events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Food Preparation
- Prepare ingredients including washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, and measuring.
- Assist in preparing appetizers, entrees, side dishes, desserts, and specialty menu items.
- Follow recipes and portion guidelines accurately.
- Assist with plating and presentation of food for catered events.
- Ensure food is prepared and served according to company quality standards.
Kitchen Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment.
- Wash dishes, cookware, utensils, and food preparation equipment.
- Assist with receiving, unpacking, and storing deliveries.
- Rotate inventory using First In, First Out (FIFO) procedures.
- Monitor inventory levels and report shortages to management.
Catering Event Support
- Assist with loading and unloading catering equipment and food.
- Help set up and break down buffet lines, serving stations, and event kitchens.
- Maintain food temperatures and food safety standards during events.
- Assist catering staff as needed to ensure successful event execution.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Follow all local health department regulations and company policies.
- Maintain proper food handling and sanitation procedures.
- Ensure proper storage and labeling of food products.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment issues immediately.
Qualifications
- Previous kitchen, restaurant, catering, or food service experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented.
- Food Handler Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, including walk-in coolers and hot kitchen environments.
Work Schedule
- Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
- Availability during peak wedding, corporate event, and holiday seasons preferred.
