Overview
The Oncology Nurse Practitioner (NP) plays a vital role in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care to oncology patients. Collaborating closely with physicians and clinical staff, the Oncology NP uses their oncology expertise to develop personalized treatment plans, manage side effects, and support patients through advanced radiopharmaceutical therapies. By combining clinical knowledge with a focus on patient well-being, the NP helps optimize treatment outcomes and ensures high-quality, safe care.
Duties
- Provide comprehensive, evidence-based clinical care to oncology patients, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up.
- Collaborate closely with nuclear medicine physicians and the wider care team to coordinate personalized theranostics treatment plans.
- Manage patient symptoms, side effects, and complications related to cancer and radiopharmaceutical therapies.
- Educate patients and their families about their diagnosis, treatment options, potential side effects, and supportive care resources.
- Perform physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications consistent with oncology care protocols and state NP scope of practice.
- Participate in patient care conferences, case reviews, and multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure coordinated, high-quality care delivery.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record system following regulatory and organizational standards.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and clinic operations.
- Support and participate in clinical trials and research activities, ensuring compliance with study protocols and patient safety standards.
- Assist with patient recruitment, screening, coordination, and follow-up for clinical research protocols as needed.
- Stay current with oncology and theranostics best practices through ongoing professional development and training.

Experience
- Master’s degree or higher in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 10 years of nursing experience, with at least 5 years of direct oncology clinical experience in an advanced practice role.
- Experience in outpatient oncology or radiopharmaceutical treatment settings strongly preferred.
- Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Maryland.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (e.g., AANP, ANCC) and oncology certification (e.g., AOCNP) strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of oncology disease processes, treatments, side effect management, and patient education.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary clinical environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and clinical documentation.
- Commitment to patient-centered care and a passion for improving outcomes in oncology patients.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced outpatient setting with sensitivity to patient needs and emotional challenges related to cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
