Scenic Bluffs is currently seeking a Medical Support Specialist/School Health Aide. This position will work 80% of the time under the supervision of the Clinical Director doing medical support duties and 20% of the time under the supervision of the Employee Health Nurse or other Registered Nurse staff in a health aide support role for the Cashton School District.
The Medical Support Specialist/ School Health Aide provides comprehensive clinical and administrative support to the Health and Wellness team in an outpatient clinic setting, along with providing health services under the direction of a licensed RN for the Cashton School District. This role is essential to ensuring efficient clinic operations, high-quality patient care, support to school aide/RN staff and compliance with regulatory standards.
Primary Medical Support Specialist Responsibilities

Managing calendars, meetings, and events, including scheduling, coordination, and follow-up

Preparing meeting agendas, minutes, reports, documents, and presentation materials

Supporting departmental projects and activities

Processes prior authorizations requests in a timely and accurate manner.

Contacting patients following emergency room visits for non-emergent, acute conditions and completes Transitional Care Management (TCM) documentation.

Reviews Risk Adjustment Factor (RAF) gaps and prepares patient charts in advance of upcoming appointments to address identified care needs.

Provides cross-coverage and back-up support for Patient Care Coordinator, Health and Wellness Coordinator and Health Record Specialist roles.

Assists with Chronic Care Management (CCM) Billing
Secondary Medical Support Specialist Responsibilities

Coordinates and processes patient medication refill requests

Conducts outreach to patients who are not meeting target goals for chronic disease management and preventive care measures.

Conducts or assigns patient outreach based on data, registries, and care gaps.

Assisting with employee health compliance
-
Collaborates with the Clinical Director to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and regulatory requirements, including Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) standards.

Assists in monitoring and supporting quality improvement initiatives, including contributing to program measures and implementing action plans.

Analyzes trends and helps implement strategies to improve patient access to appropriate levels of care.

Maintains working knowledge of Azara DRVS (quality reporting system) and eClinicalWorks (ECW) electronic health records to manage registries and patient portals effectively.

Assists with off-site health services, such as vaccination clinics and blood pressure screenings.

Primary School Health Aide Support Responsibilities

Assist Employee Health Nurse to conduct routine screenings.

Assist with recording and administering scheduled and as needed medications to students.

Assists in administering emergency medications such as school supplied epinephrine, naloxone, and albuterol. Includes other emergency medications prescribed for individual students (as trained and delegated by the school Nurse) according to licensed healthcare provider’s orders and District or Health Services (HS) policies/procedures.

Performs specialized procedures as trained and delegated by the school Nurse, including diabetic glucose monitoring, carbohydrate counting, insulin dosage calculation, small-volume nebulizer treatment, urinary catheterization, tube feeding, etc.

Monitors student health/safety during assigned period(s) in school environments (i.e., nurse office) which may include physical.

Notifying appropriate staff and parents when health related incidents and accidents occur.

Collaborating with parents and students to promote the prevention and control of illness and disease.

Serves as the school-based health and safety designee; reports unsafe conditions to site administration.

Stocks and reorders first aid supplies (i.e., band-aids, Q-tips, over the counter medications, etc.).

Prepares, organizes, and maintains accurate health records/reports on District forms and according to district policies/procedures.

Reviews, record students’ medical and health information in the student information system and electronic medical records database.

Tracks and reports blood borne pathogen exposure incidents to Employee Health Nurse and site administrator.

Renders basic first aid and emergency care to students for illnesses, injuries, and life-threatening situations
- Initiates first aid and/or cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to save lives; uses and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) as indicated.

Activates 9-1-1 to mobilize first responders (police, fire, and/or ambulance) in life-threatening emergencies.

Education and/or Experience
Position requires high school diploma or G.E.D. with a minimum of two years’ experience in an administrative or medical support role or one-year degree/diploma in an administrative, business, or medical-related program with a minimum of one-year experience in an administrative support role, or medical-related program.
