Duties
- Greet patients warmly, verify insurance coverage, and assist with patient intake processes using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems
- Schedule appointments efficiently utilizing medical scheduling software and coordinate with clinical staff to optimize daily clinic flow
- Verify insurance benefits, perform insurance verifications, and handle medical billing including collection of payments and processing of claims
- Review and update medical records ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and accurate documentation review for care plans and clinical notes
- Manage multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette, answer inquiries, and direct calls appropriately
- Assist with medical coding using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 (International Classification of Diseases), ICD coding, and other relevant medical terminology for billing purposes
- Maintain office cleanliness during downtime!
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar medical office administrative support role; clinic or dental office experience is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of health insurance processes including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurers; familiarity with insurance verification procedures
- Proficiency in EMR systems is essential
- Knowledge of medical billing, coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), documentation review, and health information management practices
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel) and typing skills such as 10 key typing for data entry accuracy
- Ability to communicate effectively in bilingual settings is a plus; strong customer service skills are essential
- Understanding of clinical confidentiality policies in accordance with HIPAA standards; familiarity with medical terminology including dental terminology if applicable
- Office management skills including filing, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and handling multi-line phone systems
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification in medical administration or related fields is advantageous
