Education: Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology; Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field preferred.
Certification: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Automotive Master Level Certification (A1-A9), Must include L1 (Advanced Engine Performance Specialist) Certification, L3 (Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist) Certification preferred, valid driver’s license, Illinois teaching license or ability to obtain within first year of employment
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of full-time work experience as an automotive technician within the last 10 years in a dealership, independent repair facility, or equivalent setting with demonstrated expertise in: Engine repair and performance, Braking systems, Steering and suspension, Electrical systems, HVAC systems, Hybrid/Electric vehicle technology, Computerized diagnostics and repair; experience with current automotive technology, diagnostic equipment, and repair procedures, familiarity with industry standards, practices, and terminology
Knowledge/Skills: Proficiency with automotive shop equipment, diagnostic tools, and software; Strong organizational and classroom management skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to work with diverse student populations; Computer literacy and proficiency with common software applications; Knowledge of safety practices and OSHA regulations related to automotive instruction; Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
