**Overview:**
We are seeking a dedicated Animal Care Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare and possess a strong background in veterinary care or pet services.
This is a full time position that may include weekend, evening, holiday, or on-call hours.
Must possess a valid and unrestricted Iowa driver's license
Must be flexible with scheduling and and have availability when away from the facility as needed to meet the needs of the organization
Knowledge of basic animal care and low stress handling•Able to understand and communicate using appropriate veterinary medical terminology
Strong communicator both verbally and written,
Ability prepare, analyze and evaluate outcomes and results
**Responsibilities:**
Maintain excellent knowledge of all shelter standard medical procedures, vaccines, preventatives, and common diseases and their symptoms, transmission, and prevention
Ensure daily animal care is completed efficiently and effectively, monitoring task checklists
Ensure the health and well-being of all animals in the facility
Learn, implement, and teach protocols
Clean and sanitize cages, enclosures, and all equipment in accordance Standard Operating Procedures
Must be able to perform behavior evaluations, give vaccines, perform heartworm tests, perform behavior modification, and match pets with their new adopters
Provide clinical care for neonate cats, kittens and nursing cats and litters including syringe feeding; administration of topical, oral, and ophthalmic medications
Maintain and update medical records
Ensure all animals recieve appropriate medical and preventative care as scheduled including vaccinations
Monitor inventory of supplies
Interact with customers to address inquiries and provide exceptional service
Transport animals to various appointments
Assist/supervise volunteers, work study students and animal care interns
**Experience:**
Knowledge of all shelter standard medical procedures, vaccines, preventatives, and common diseases and their symptoms, transmission, and prevention
The ideal candidate should have experience in the following areas:
- Veterinary technician or assistant background
- Proficiency in pet care and animal handling
- Strong customer service skills
- Knowledge of kennel operations
- Ability to perform heavy lifting tasks
- Familiarity with veterinary procedures and pet grooming techniques

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
