Position Overview:
The Koan School is hiring an Enrichment Faculty member for the 25-26 academic year. This role will primarily provide academic support for our elementary students, assist with the supervision of students, and substitute for lead teachers as needed. This is an hourly position with pay at $20 an hour. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with a 45-minute break for lunch. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to progressive education, embracing the unique educational opportunities provided by our 15-acre campus, which includes farm animals, a pond, and a forest with hiking trails. Experience or a strong interest in meeting the needs of neurodivergent students is desired.
Responsibilities:
- Support and follow directives of Classroom Facilitators
- Provide 1-1 support and supervise small work groups as needed.
- Help prepare and clean the facility before and after classes.
- Help with the maintenance of accurate classroom records as requested by the lead teacher.
- Provide class coverage in a lead teacher’s absence, as needed.
- Model integrity, responsibility, and respect for all persons as well as an appreciation for ethnic, cultural, gender issues, and diversity.
- Share responsibility with Classroom Facilitators for the safety and physical well-being of the students.
- Ensure that all school policies & procedures are followed.
- Working with the lead teachers and Administration, assist with implementing appropriate classroom management & consequences as needed.
- Demonstrate ability to handle private and sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
- Capacity to remain calm and composed in a variety of situations.
- Establish, maintain, and foster a positive relationship with students and staff.
- Work with individuals and groups of children to complete classwork and maintain classroom discipline as directed by the lead teacher.
- Assist Classroom Facilitators with transitioning students between classes and end of day as needed.
- Other duties assigned.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- High School Diploma
- Have at least one (1) year of experience working with children in some capacity (i.e. teaching, tutoring individual students, volunteering)
- Other teaching or child supervision experience may take the place of this requirement.
- Work well with other staff members and families.
- Engage in staff development provided by the Director.
- Provide evidence of expertise in one or more subject areas
- Be capable of passing a federal background check.
- Experience with progressive education methodologies.
- Understanding of neurodivergent inclusion practices.
- Enthusiasm for integrating outdoor and farm-based learning experiences.
