American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Correctional Nursing position at a large detention facility in Albuquerque, NM, requiring BLS, ACLS, and MOAB certification with night shift availability.

Work setting is a large detention center with a facility capacity of approximately 1,900 inmates and a current average daily population of 1,640
-
Correctional nursing unit serving inmates across multiple areas of the facility

Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (18:00–06:30)

Every other weekend required

36-hour weekly contract with a 48-hour flex option

Block scheduling accommodated

Charting performed in Cerner
-
Special skills utilized: phlebotomy, IV insertion, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tank, and isolation precautions

Active NM RN license or compact RN license (pending license accepted)

Minimum 1 year of RN experience required

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and MOAB (facility will provide MOAB training if not already held)

RQI certifications are not accepted in place of required BLS/ACLS

Must be able to pass a facility background check

Proficiency with phlebotomy, IV placement, airway management, and oxygen delivery devices required

Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
-
Responsibilities include providing routine and emergency healthcare to incarcerated patients, conducting health assessments, triaging and assessing newly admitted patients, performing detox rounds per protocol, and making referrals to providers, dental, and mental health professionals

First-time travelers are welcome to apply; prior correctional or relevant clinical experience preferred

MOAB training (4-hour de-escalation course) will be provided during the first week for candidates who do not already hold certification; failure to pass may result in contract cancellation

COVID vaccination is optional; however, vaccination status (series or declination) must be documented for facility reporting purposes
-
RTO requests exceeding 7 days require facility approval; all scheduling requests should be submitted upfront
-
New contracts and extensions must be a minimum of 10 weeks in length
-
Travelers who have completed 4 consecutive assignments or reached a one-year milestone at this facility are required to take a 6-month break before returning
