Primary Purpose:
Assist in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED certificate
-
Thirty (30) semester hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas or three creditable years of experience as either an educational aide I or II
-
State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) Educational Aide III paraprofessional certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills
-
Ability to work with at-risk and special needs students
-
Ability to work within a specialized behavior management system
-
Ability to learn, utilize and control student behavior through verbal de-escalation techniques
-
Ability to work well with adults
-
Ability to communicate effectively orally as well as written expression
-
General knowledge of computer systems and software applications
-
Ability to learn and utilize specialized therapeutic restraint techniques to control student behavior, when appropriate
Experience:

Experience working with students with special needs and students in at-risk situations
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
-
Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
-
Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
-
Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.

Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
-
Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus duty, and playground.

Assist students with physical needs and personal care as needed.

Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention, including restraining disruptive or dangerous physical behavior as needed.

Keep the teacher and administrative staff informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.

Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.

Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.

Assist in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
-
Participate in in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events.

Treat all staff with dignity, integrity and respect.

Conduct physical student searches

Maintain confidentiality of information.
-
Perform other duties as assigned by campus principal or senior director.
